If you run a streetwear imprint, or basically any other company that makes cool shit, and didn’t do at least one collaboration in 2013, you were in the wildly over-whelming minority. Everyone was doing it. Even artists, musicians, and pop icons got in on the action.

ALIFE X Katz’s Deli

ALIFE had a break out 2013, nailing not just their clothing designs but a whole set of parties, concerts, and cultural occurrences in NYC. One of their best efforts of the year was a collaboration with Katz’s Deli, the Empire City’s undisputed king of deli creations.

Whether it’s filling their rooms with unexpected furniture, or bringing in streetwear houses to create co-branded products, the Ace Hotel loves to get creative in the way they interact with their loyal customers. Their Converse hi-tops were another big hit.

Everyone was talking about Kanye‘s Yeezus bomber jacket and it’s Confederate Flag patches. What they should have been focusing on was the rest of the tattoo-inspired tour merch pieces that Wes Lang designed for him.

Round-framed sunglasses made a big comeback in 2013, but Thom Browne‘s limited-edition pieces for colette put all of them to shame.

After the profiling scandal that went down at Barneys, Jay Z probably regretting going in on his high-end collab with the department store. But either way, the pieces he helped design were very awesome.

The whole split-midsole coloring for the Nike Air Max 1 is a trend that Nike Sportswear isn’t looking to let go of anytime soon. Shown here is another pair that bisects the bottom in terms of color, this one wearing white on the front end and red on the back end. Elsewhere the sneaker is a pretty muted affair thanks to the combination of grey suede and ripstop up top and the rather nondescript black Swoosh cutting across the side. While Drizzy proved to be all business in the booth, he had more fun than ever with his style by sporting vintage hip hop tees, custom Cash Money clothing, and a matching arsenal of retro and OG Js. “Aqua” 8s, “Orlando” 7s, White/Red 17s, and “Doernbecher” 3s were just a few highlights from a solid album push and tour run. Still not sold? He signed a partnership with Jordan Brand that in its early stages has already seen four pairs of OVO-inspired PEs. Champagne Papi was first on more than a few Jordan drops over the course of the year, expect him to lead by example even more in 2014.

There are already a number of nice photos of Arne Quinze’s Cityscape in Brussels, but since there was a nice light today I thought I’d post mine too.

This is a typical Brussels story: a block of houses and shops were razed a few years ago but the real estate developer got stuck with lawsuits and complaints from all over the place. That left a gaping hole on Avenue de la Toison d’Or, one of Ixelles’ popular shopping areas. Come Arno Quinze, a designer with a talent for marketing, who persuaded the city government to let him build his Cityscape while the developer sorts out its legal problems. You can see images of the construction on the Cityscape blog. College Kicks On Court: Creighton’s Jahenns Manigat Wears “Columbia” Air Jordan 11

In what was perheps the best College Kicks On Court week of the season to date, the top spot was clear. There were only three original colorways of the iconic Air Jordan 11, and the “Columbia” 11s are the only member of the trio to be given just one retro run. First released in 1996 and unseen since 2001, the Air Jordan 11 “Columbia” is one of the most sought-after and rarely seen Michael Jordan sneakers today. Countless rumors have been thrown around that we might get the model as an upcoming Jordan Brand holiday release, but until then we’ll just have to wish we were Jahenns Manigat. The Creighton guard pulled his “Columbia” 11s from his personal vault and rocked them to sleep in a win over Chicago State. Although Manigat’s lacing was one of the best sneaker sightings possibly in college basketball history, a wide array of other sneakers combined to make it the week of the season so far. One of one Customs, classic Nike Basketball models, colorful adidas makeups, and endless Air Jordans were all in full effect across the entire country.
