Coolrain Pays Tribute to Air Max Day with Space Lunar Boot-Wearing Astronaut Figure

In celebration of Air Max day earlier this week, toy-maker and designer Coolrain created two astronaut figures wearing inspired boots from the iconic Air Max franchise. The highlight, a Lunarlon meets Air Max boot, was a fitting and modern take on one of Nike’s most important silos. Furthermore, the Korean artist created an Air Max installation and placed two astronaut figures atop a sneaker shoe print, while the astronaut’s suits are also detailed with Nike’s motifs. Check out images of the figurines and Lunar boot above and head here to see the exhibition pieces.

BRONX NEWS: Drunk driver gets 90 days in jail after killing Bronx man

The mother of a Bronx barber killed by a drunk driver in 2011 sat stone-faced on Friday as the man accused of running down her 23-year-old son was sentenced to only 90 days in jail.

Nearly three years to the day after he struck Thomas Riley with his Crystler minivan, Seth Johnson, 38, was led from the courtroom in handcuffs.

“He will be in jail for less than three months and I have to live with a life sentence,” the victim’s mother, Aurea Rivera, said after Bronx Supreme Court Justice Nicholas Iacovetta read the decision. “I want the laws changed so that no one else has to suffer like us.”

Rivera, joined in the courtroom by nearly a dozen friends and relatives, read a statement before the court and called on Mayor de Blasio and other elected officials to toughen vehicular manslaughter and drunk driving laws.

A jury acquitted Johnson of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges last December, as well as leaving the scene.

After five postponed sentencing dates, the 38-year-old received 90 days in jail and three years’ probation, and was ordered to complete an alcohol and drug treatment program for the lesser charge of driving while drunk, which carries a maximum sentence of up to one year behind bars.

Riley, who worked as a barber, was one of five siblings born and raised near Morris Ave. and 142nd St. He was a devoted father to his son, Julien, now 6, his family said.

The 23-year-old was trying to hail a taxicab near E. Fordham Road and Bathgate Ave. when he was hit, at about 4:20 a.m. on March 20, 2011.

Johnson, who had been drinking and smoking marijuana, initially stopped his vehicle but was chased off by a friend of Riley, his attorney said.

Police arrested him minutes later on a service road near the Cross Bronx Expressway.

“This is not a man who needs to reform his character,” defense attorney Amy Gallicchio argued on Friday as she asked that her client be released on probation. “He and his family have suffered emotional trauma.”

The 38-year-old security guard, who had been out on bail for the three years leading up to his sentencing, declined to speak with reporters at previous court appearances.

Johnson’s scheduled jail time provided little closure for his victim’s family.

Rivera attributed her stoic response to the trial’s snail pace. More than two years passed before Johnson’s trial even started.

“I can’t cry anymore,” the distraught mother said of dealing with the multitude of court dates, including the six week trial. “We have had to relive my son’s death over and over.”

A Closer Look at the Air Jordan “Barons Pack”

air jordan barons pack A Closer Look at the Air Jordan Barons Pack

The Air Jordan “Barons Pack” references Michael’s first departure from the NBA, a move that shocked the world and saw the legend spend a little bit of time on the baseball diamond trying to make it work with the Birmingham Barons. So how are these two shoes connected to that era in MJ history? Well for one, the Air Jordan 9 was the model on-feet for MJ during his time off from the game. And right around that time the Air Jordan 1 was reborn, as Nike first toyed with the idea of retro-ing Jordan models. Take a look at those two donning the pinstriped “Birmingham Barons” looks and watch for them next weekend at Wish or right now on eBay.

nike lebron 11 low dunkman promo sample Nike LeBron 11 Low Dunkman Promo Sample on eBay

The “Dunkman” colorway is one of the oldest tricks in the book as far as the Nike LeBron line is concerned. That nuclear look will be back on the Nike LeBron 11 Low shown here, which features the high-fyling silhouette on the tongue and the proper mixture of volt and green shades. The pair pictured is actually a sample, as indicated by the tag on the inside, but we can’t spot any cosmetic differences between this and the other pairs floating around. Browse the rest of the images on them that are waiting for you after the break and then grab a pair ahead of the retail release from keishia_2008 on eBay.

Things are moving so fast these days; just think back to how much has changed in the sneaker world since the ‘South Beach’ LeBron 8 debuted in 2010.  With the rate of change only accelerating, it’s crazy to imagine where we’ll be in another nearly two decades, which is about how long it’s been since Glenn Robinson’s Reebok Rail debuted at retail.  We get a bit of temporal disturbance with this new pair applying a South Beach or Miami Vice look to the Rail as rendered in suede with a patent leather Rail.  Check out some more angles after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for US release info.

Nike Womens Internationalist – Light Ore – Atomic Mango

nike wmns internationalis beige orange red 01 Nike Womens Internationalist Light Ore Atomic Mango

We got a couple of brand new ladies colorways around the start of the year in conjunction with the return of the Nike Internationalist, and now with the second quarter of 2014 about to begin, we’re soon to welcome new drops. This new pair toes the line between ultimate wearability and summertime energy, as a tonal beige pair adds orange and red accents, with a glossy hit on the heel. The nylon underlay on these has a triangle pattern that gives what would be the tamest part of the design a serious boost, so click in to see the fine details, then cop a pair at NSW shops like Suppa.

lebron 11 elite remove before flight Nike Suggests You Remove Before Flight on the LeBron 11 Elite

Remember when the Air Jordan 17 asked you to peel off that bit of plastic around the back end? The Nike LeBron 11 Elite, LeBron James’ latest post-season sneaker, gets a little bit more creative with that prompt. As shown here, the covering reads “Remove Before Flight” – a line that we’ve actually seen a handful of times prior on Nike releases during the 2012 “Galaxy” All-Star pack. Continue reading for further glimpses of the upcoming release and then tell us in the comments if you’ll be purchasing a pair of these new LeBrons.
