A Timeline of the Air Jordan 11 Low “Concord”

Pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

The Air Jordan 11 Low “Concord” drops this Saturday, but how’d we get here? It’s been a long road. From unreleased OG PEs to revamped retros to random sightings, the shoe has remained mysterious over the course of the last 18 years. As we await this weekend’s drop, we take a look back at the key moments that led up to this major release.

Michael Jordan Debuts “Concord” Lows

When: June 18, 1996

Mike loves a parade. After shocking the world a year before by debuting the “Concord” Mids in his basketball comeback, MJ brought the title back to Chicago in the “Playoff” 11s. When it came time to celebrate, he rocked the unreleased “Concord” Lows. This rare sighting is particularly special as the Air Jordan 11 Low did not release with a patent leather mudguard in 1996.

Berlin

Berlin
street art

Berlin is noted for its numerous cultural institutions, many of which enjoy international reputation.

The diversity and vivacity of the Zeitgeist Metropolis led to a trendsetting image among major cities.

The city has a very diverse art scene and is home to around 420 art galleries.

Many young people and international artists continue to settle in the city, and Berlin has established itself as a center of youth and popular culture in Europe.

The expanding cultural role of Berlin is underscored by the 2003 announcement that the Popkomm, Europe’s largest annual music industry convention—previously hosted for 15 years by Cologne—would move to Berlin.

Shortly thereafter, the Universal Music Group and MTV also decided to move their European headquarters and main studios to the banks of the River Spree in Friedrichshain.

In 2005, Berlin was awarded the title of "City of Design" by UNESCO.

Nike Air Tech Challenge II – “Cube Court”

nike-air-tech-challenge-ii-cube-court-01

Nike is channeling vintage Andre Agassi with this latest edition of the Nike Air Tech Challenge II, featuring an OG colorway lifted straight from Agassi’s early days (back when the tennis phenom’s mantra was “Image is everything”). The shoe is built with a white leather base, dressed in perforated detailing at the toe box and quarter panels, plus accenting pops of blue and red throughout the mid-top silhouette. Cascading cubes replace the signature paint splatter traditionally associated with the Air Tech Challenge, but the ’90s aesthetic remains firmly intact. The kicks launch this Saturday at Invincible. Stay tuned for word on a U.S. release.

Essentials: Alex Mattsson

Citing Gareth Pugh, Romain Kremer and Damir Doma as his influences, Alex Mattsson is a young designer emerging out of London’s vibrant fashion scene. Moving to the capital to pursui his talent, Mattsson graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2009 and has since exhibited work at London Collections: Men, starting with his debut in Fall/Winter 2011. Admittedly a fan of bright pastels and baggy attires, there’s a retro disposition in Mattsson’s work that’s reminiscent of the golden years of hip-hop. Yet the use of technical fabrics — cut and sewed in abstract ways — and outlandish embellishments provide examples of Mattsson’s wild imagination. Drawing inspiration from alien conspiracy theories, military and rebellious subcultures, the Scandinavian designer continues to marvel his audience with bold motifs, some of which is evident in his Essentials. Camouflage Short Dungarees are paired with Alex Mattsson x Caterpillar All White Boots, while a selection of vintage jewelry from The Great Frog and the like show Mattsson’s affinity for well made pieces. Enjoy the Essentials here and head to Alex Mattsson’s webpage for more on his 2014 spring/summer range.
