Throwback Thursday // Nike Air Zoom Generation

As the new NBA season kicks off, a ton of people, including myself, are continuously perplexed at the swift nature in which the new season arrived. It seems as though only yesterday the Golden State Warriors were “champagne-ing and campaigning” in the visitors locker room of The Q as they captured their first NBA title in over thirty years.

Fast forward to this past Tuesday, and the two NBA Finals participants made their 2015 season debut as the Cavaliers and Warriors would both take the floor against various opponents. With LeBron James sporting his latest signature and Curry as well, today’s episode of Throwback Thursday will focus on King James and his self-anointed favorite sneaker of all-time: the Nike Air Zoom Generation.

To see for yourself, the history behind this silhouette, check out the video above and scroll through the pages below to enjoy.

Man Child: LeBron James

5810466 ABCD LeBron James

By 2002, LeBron James was a bonafide prodigy in Northeast Ohio, as his Akron-bred talent continued to captivate collegiate coaches. Standing 6’8 and donning the ability to make flashy plays while exhibiting rare athleticism, LeBron James was undoubtedly the number one prep prospect in the country.

However, his stardom truly began at the vaunted ABCD Camp in which he dethroned Lenny Cooke of the number one spot in the nation. Capturing the attention of Sonny Vaccaro, James’ name would continue to grow within both basketball circles and sneaker circles as well.

Reebok ZPump Rise ‘Water’ Pack

Reebok ZPump Rise Water Pack

Reebok continues to bring heat to the ZPump Rise performance basketball sneaker with the ‘Cloud Pack‘ which officially launched on October 15th. Today, Reebok introduces the second of three drops this season – the Reebok ZPump Rise ‘Water’ Pack.

Launching Sunday, November 1st, the ZPump Rise ‘Water Pack’ has a watersplash themed graphic overlay on the upper, executed in three different colorways: purple, red and black.

From a technology standpoint, Reebok’s patented Pump technology takes custom fit back to the court with a true performance basketball sneaker.

The ZPump Rise incorporates a lightweight, fully customizable air filled cage that pumps up and molds to any player’s foot for a locked-in custom fit.

By using only 3 key lightweight parts, this shoe delivers both high performance features as well as wearable comfort. The fusion compression sleeve offers a seamless and irritation-free upper to enhance any modern basketball player¹s game. The construction of the internal mesh bootie is designed to provide all-over foot support for vertical and lateral movements on the court. But what makes this sneaker stand out from the rest is the fully customizable Pump Air-Cage that provides the foot with a locked-in custom fit and added support so you can excel at your game.

The Reebok ZPump Rise ‘Water’ Pack will release on November 1st, 2015 and retail for 4.99 at retailers including Finish Line and Reebok.com.

My 5 // JR Duperrier’s Adidas Sneaker Rotation

words, interview & images // Nick DePaula:

With the NBA season getting underway this week, there’s a new 82-game campaign on deck for the league’s biggest stars to showcase their skills and reach a new audience of fans across the globe.

1200 JR 1 BFor our world, a new season also means a new batch of marquee sneakers launching, new campaigns for each of the key signature athletes and new on-court moments to look forward to as the season progresses. At each of the major footwear companies, countless people are working behind the scenes to promote the emerging brands of their top athletes, like adidas Basketball’s JR Duperrier.

As one of the members of the adidas Basketball Sports Marketing team, Duperrier works with several of their biggest endorsers, like James Harden, Damian Lillard, Andrew Wiggins and many others, to make sure they’re taken care of, both on and off the court. He’s also had a chance to have his share of commercial cameos too.

To hear more about his role at adidas Basketball, and to also get a recap of his “My 5” sneaker rotation of late, I recently caught up with JR in Portland.

Nick DePaula: A lot of people hear the term “Sports Marketing,” but don’t really have an understanding of what that means exactly. What’s your job entail?

JR Duperrier: It’s all about relationships. It starts from the grassroots level, and it goes all the way to the pros. It’s about building relationships with the players themselves in High School and college, and then at the pro level, also working with agents, people from the NBA and people from the teams.

Part of my job is to work with our design and marketing teams to educate the guys on what adidas has to offer on and off the court, as well as how we can help them with marketing, tours and other events.

Once a player decides to go pro and joins the brand, my job is to take care of them, get them psyched up about adidas, be their line of communication and make sure they have everything that they need.

NDP: What are some of the things you’ll do to educate them about the brand?

JR: For the last four years, we’ve done a Rookie Orientation here in Portland to bring guys to our campus and have them meet with our designers, social media teams, athlete services and all of the people from the brand that will be helping them. We’ll make sure that we introduce them to everyone in our departments.

Dame Tour Selfie 1200Depending on who the player is, we also work on activations for our guys. We’ll take them on tours, do fan events and make sure they have everything that they need from a product standpoint to represent the brand. A cool example would be this summer, when we took Dame [Lillard] on his first tour.

1200 JR 3 FINALWe went to Tokyo, China and Paris, and it was crazy! The fact that I knew this kid before he even blew up to where he is now, it’s amazing. He was in Tokyo or parts of China, and hundreds of people were waiting for him to arrive and screaming his name.

NDP: The huge news for the brand most recently is adding James Harden. What was his excitement like on October 1st once everything was finally official?

JR: With James, it was crazy. There was the fact that the media made such a big deal about him wearing Jordans, when people didn’t really know the full story that he was still under contract there and honoring that. We took advantage of that and did a nice activation to make sure we gave him as many shoes as possible. He was just so happy to join the family, and he was ready to create and work with us.

NDP: What was it like being on the set and in the spot?

JR: Honestly, it was really relaxed. We waited for him to come from practice, and he was just real eager to be there. As soon as he walked in, he was ready to go. He saw all of the shoes and he was just amazed at everything that he had.

He was talking all about how he was going to rock this, and how he was going to rock that, and it was cool to be there. I don’t think we’ve ever had that type of Day 1 anticipation for an athlete that we’ve signed.

NDP: Of course, and it’s rare that you can get a guy of that level in his prime, like with James. Alright, now lets get into your recent rotation…

Continue ahead for a look at JR Duperrier’s “My 5”:

Check Out This OG Nike Flyknit Racer That is Releasing Soon

Back in 2012 when Nike first unveiled Flyknit technology, and the two corresponding silhouettes that would ignite the movement, many initially gravitated towards the Racer as opposed to the Trainer. In its inaugural run there were two famed colorways – Volt and Team Orange.

This Neon Green Flyknit Racer looks to have been produced during that timeframe, but didn’t release alongside its two aforementioned counterparts. They are, however, releasing now. Not quite volt yet still exceptionally vibrant, give this Nike Flyknit Racer “Neon Green” a look below and stay tuned for more details.

Nike Air Cruz ‘Rush Blue’

Rush Blue Nike Air Cruz

Nike has a handful of the Air Cruz set to debut, one pair that we get an exclusive first look at is the Nike Air Cruz ‘Blue’ which is apart of the Fall and Winter offerings from Nike Sportswear.

The blue edition of the Air Cruz comes shortly after we exposed the red edition of the shoes. While the red seems to attract many of our readers, it’s clear that the blue model will still sell units.

As you can see, this pair is dressed in pretty much all blue down to the outsole which appears to come with a translucent tint. Highlights for the Air Cruz ‘Blue’ are the strap across the tongue and heel, pyramid design, metal eyelets and a leather interior.

At the time of writing, there isn’t a release date set for the ‘Blue’ Nike Air Cruz. However we have heard they will be releasing in the next few months or so. More than likely they will start showing up overseas first and then a follow-up release in the United States. Make sure to check back with us for more details.

With many variations of this classic running shoe already offered, this particular rendition inherits a breathable nylon composition. The lightweight shimmering component is prominent across its toe box and vamp section, while tonal suede overlays along the rear, side panels and toe cap solidity its overall build, as well as adding a touch of modern appeal.

The eye-catching tone is nicely complemented with White accents, which are located on the signature formstripes, lining, heel tab, tongue tab and comfortable rubber sole unit. A solid two-tone execution, you can find this pair at Titolo now.
