Air Jordan 1 Mid “Anthracite” // Preview

Sure, the Air Jordan 1 Mid  is somewhat like the Air Force 1 Mid when compared to its High and Low counterparts. It’s largely the lesser of the three by comparison, but certainly not a sleeper when produced in a strong colorway.

This Air Jordan 1 Mid “Anthracite” is a Bulls-esque rendering with a black leather base alongside red accents. Two-tone laces mimic the shoes overall theme while a white outer marks the shoe’s greater contrast. Stay tuned for release details on this stellar Air Jordan 1 Mid.

BRONX NEWS: 100-year-old Bronx man cuffed after shooting himself in the leg

A 100-year-old Bronx man added arrest to injury Thursday, when he shot himself in the leg, then wound up charged with weapons possession.

Pedro Detres was handling his revolver when the gun went off, sending a bullet into the centenarian gunslinger’s thigh Thursday morning, cops said.

Police learned of the injury at about 10:30 a.m., after responding to a call of an emotionally disturbed person in his second-floor apartment on E. 162nd St. near Sheridan Ave. in Concourse, cops said.

Cops tied a tourniquet around Detres’ leg to stop the bleeding, and medics took him to Lincoln Hospital.

The Cowboy Way // A Day in Dallas with Nike Football

When I was seven years old, I asked my mom for a Detroit Lions Barry Sanders jersey for my eighth birthday. Being from Michigan and getting into football through watching it with my dad and running routes with him in the backyard, it wouldn’t be my first love like basketball but it would be the sport I’d play and learn to love through my school years.

So on February 2nd, 1996 it was finally here, the birthday gift that would set off a love of a new sport and a fire ‘fit to my Montessori classroom come February 3rd: a Barry Sanders Lions jersey.

But it wasn’t.

A lawyer by trade and an artist at heart, my mom loved her kids and even loved clothes, but she wasn’t on traditional team sports like that. The gift in the box? A Deion Sanders Dallas Cowboys jersey. It would become a blessing in disguise as I could rock it to school with my friend Dash in his Emmitt Smith jersey and relate to Primetime through his flash and charisma.

By accident or fate, I was a Cowboys fan.

Picking up the nickname ‘Tex’ for my southern accent in sixth grade football, the game would become a love of mine and via an internship at Nice Kicks during my college career at Michigan State (thank God, for that) the kid called Tex would make the Lone Star State his home.

Landing just south of Cowboy country in Austin, the brashness of the fan base and heart with the Lions would turn me off the Dallas squad. They ain’t won a Super Bowl in fifteen years, why are they such a big deal?

Well, last Thursday I found out. Driving up to Dallas and taking part of Nike Football’s The Star Treatment I hopped on Jerry Jones’ private bus to find out what the Cowboy life was all about.

Led on a VIP tour of the Dallas Cowboys Frisco facilities that house the team’s stadium status practice field and on-site Nike Experience Fan Shop, we got the hospitality and history associated with the most talked about franchise in pro football. Guided by Dallas Ekin Roderick Rollins, a standout DB at Skyline high school, starter for Boston College and Chicago Bears draftee, the charismatic local has made the move from covering deep threats on the gridiron to tackling tale-telling in his hometown’s high school and professional football scene. On the bus, the group of local IG influencers and publishers hear about the Cowboys’ exclusive Nike deal signed by Jerry Jones back in the mid ’90s that would make the team its own entity and even pop up in my guy Primetime’s Diamond Turf TV campaigns.

story

Upon arrival at the team’s Frisco facilities, we’d get gear’d up at the Nike team shop — stocked with both exclusive Cowboys fan merch and performance gear, making it a true one off in the NFL just as Jerry would like it. From there we’d sit in on a live inner squad scrimmage open to the public, complete with practice play from Dez, Dak and Zeke to a capacity crowd cheering on and evaluating their home team as if it was the season opener.

Part practice facility, part spa, part museum, it’s clear the Cowboy way is all about the fans. Historic, efficient and pristine, their offices include the press conference platform for franchise higher ups, the war room where Draft Day deals are made and the practice field where legends are bred all within an arm’s reach of Blue Heaven for football fans.

b

Touring the facilities and getting the lay of the land, we hear the history of how the Cowboy’s became America’s Team by pull quote and how the team still wears seafoam green pants — not silver — because they looked better on TV in the ’90s. We casually see Coach Garrett conducting business while smiling and waving at us — not once but twice — as we hear about the franchise’s appreciation for art and honoring their legends. Better than that, they look after their future as their practice stadium houses four local high school teams that Nike outfits.

While all this is fun, if you know Nike events they’re about storytelling but more about sweat. Hitting the locker room, we get outfitted in everything from Metcon trainers to Flyknit shorts to check out the on-site weight room and hit the field for a football workout on the Cowboy practice turf.

Running cones and catching passes in the end zone, we get to test out the Nike Alpha Menace Elite while keeping our custom cleats complete with Twitter handle clean. A good sweat deserves a good dose of recover and self care, so we hit the spa zone for the NormaTec Pulse System muscle relief the players use and Cryotherapy straight out of Austin Powers. Yeah baby.

Educated and rejuvenated, it’s easy to see why Cowboys football is such a big deal to fans in Texas and from afar. It’s hard to imagine another franchise offering that much entertainment and engagement to their fan base or the media. Looking out for the local schools and treating their talent like royalty, Jerry Jones and Nike have combined their wealth and imagination for an inclusive experience unlike any other team.

Maybe these local football fans are onto something after all.

Air Jordan 1 “Wheat” // Release Date

There are some colorways that seem to execute well on practically any sneaker. Timberland might have made the wheat boot look a staple in east coast fashion, but we have seen the vibe borrowed countless times from virtually every brand under the sun.

Set to show off its summer tan this fall, the Air Jordan 1 “Wheat” sees the latest classic to take on the tone also known as chutney or flax. Swapping in suede for leather but still sporting nylon on the tongue and Nike Air branding, this new take on the OG looks prime to be a hit if Air Force and Air Max peers are any indications.

Look for these to launch on November 25th, the day after Black Friday, at JB accounts.

Apple’s iPhone 8 Event Will Take Place on September 12

As we reported earlier this week, Apple’s press event, at which the company will unveil a raft of new products — including its latest iPhone — is scheduled to occur on September 12. The invites are going out to the press as we speak, listing the venue as the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple’s new campus, and a start time of 10 am PDT. Officially, that’s all we know, but it’s a very safe bet that Tim Cook and co. will be taking the wraps off a new Apple Watch and a new iteration of Apple TV. Of course, the big news will center around the reveal of the iPhone 8, said to feature an edge-to-edge 5.8-inch OLED display, wireless charging and facial recognition. Stay tuned.

Skepta x Nike Ads Takeover EU Streets

Skepta has been on a hot streak lately, both domestically and internationally. Not only is his Boy Better Know label repeatedly asserting its legacy in London’s grime scene, but his status as a major artist recently reached new heights with the announce of his latest fashion collaboration — the signature Nike Air Max 97 “SK.”

The sneaker is set to release this Saturday, September 2nd, however this isn’t Skepta’s first time collaborating with Nike. The two parties teamed up back in 2016 for their Blacklisted Air Max BW collaboration, only this time the footwear powerhouse is taking a different approach to their product rollout.

Reports from major Central – Western European cities have shown an abundance of Nike “SK” ads all over town streets. Considering that EU hasn’t seen a campaign quite like this since Nike’s early UK-rap collaboration with grime-pioneer Dizzee Rascal, one might assume that this release is promising to spice things up a bit for EU sneaker culture.

From London to Paris to Berlin, NikeLab has spared no expense to make sure everyone is seeing some sort of “SK” propaganda. Take a look at some of the ad spottings below and take some time to decide whether or not this shoe will be on your drop radar. Seeing how excited these ads are making people oversees — maybe it should be.

BRONX NEWS: Teen dies after fall from fifth-story fire escape in the Bronx

A 15-year-old boy smoking on his Bronx fire escape died Thursday morning after falling five stories into an alley, police said.

Leonardo (Lenny) Marmolejos fell from the fire escape that runs down the back of his apartment building on Briggs Ave. near E. 199th St. in Fordham Manor about 6:15 a.m., cops said.

Wearing only pajamas, he landed in an alley.

A neighbor found him face down on the ground and called 911.

Medics rushed the teen in traumatic arrest to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died.

His heartbroken father raced to the building Thursday morning cradling a cellphone picture of his dead son.

“He just made 15,” Leonardo Marmolejos Sr. said between heart-rending sobs outside his ex-wife’s Briggs Ave. building. “I say to him, ‘Papi, you so handsome.’”

“Lenny is a Xerox copy of me,” said the 62-year-old Army veteran, who served in the Vietnam War. “If you saw me when I was 15 you couldn’t tell us apart. (He) was a beautiful kid, obedient, respectful, never got no complaint from him in school.”

Brooklyn fire that killed couple set off by charcoal grill

“He was such a good kid,” he said.

The high school sophomore with dreams of playing in the NBA lived on the building’s fifth floor with his mother and grandmother, police sources said.

After learning of the accident, his mom began suffering chest pains and was taken to the same hospital as her son.

Lenny’s mom, who is recovering in the hospital, last saw her child in his bedroom about 1:20 a.m., sources said. The fire escape is connected to his bedroom window.

Investigators believe he propped open the window and climbed out onto the fire escape to smoke — news that left his father with more questions.

“What happened?” his father asked. “I always told him, ‘Lenny, do something because you want to do it, don’t do it because of peer pressure.’”

“I told him it’s a tough environment but you have to mind your business,” he said. “I said stay away from those bad kids and you’re going to make it.”
