Our Favorite Athletes to Wear Nikes & Jordans at the University of Michigan

The University of Michigan and Nike have a storied history with many of the Victors’ greatest athletes scoring touchdowns and putting down dunks in Nikes and Jordans. Focusing on basketball but also showing love to a football favorite, see some of the prolific Wolverines that made history in Nike.

Glen Rice

Glenn Rice Nike Delta Force

Before Glen Rice was a 99 level 3-Point Shooter in NBA Live, he was a standout forward at the University of Michigan. The Heat turned Hornet NBA star laced up the Nike Air Delta Force High en route to winning a National Championship in Ann Arbor back in 1989.

Chris Webber

Chris Webber Michigan Nike

Sporting the Swoosh during his two-year stay in Ann Arbor, Chris Webber helped Huaraches hit and black Barkleys boom. The Nike Air Flight Huarache and Nike Air Force Max are synonymous with C Webb and the Fab Five, still creating nostalgia in retro life.

Jalen Rose

Jalen Rose Michigan Nike

The point guard that propelled the Fab Five, Jalen Rose was a figurehead that represented the phenomenal freshman stylistically in both attitude and apparel. The Nike Air Dynamic Flight, Nike Air Flight Huarache and even the Air Jordan 9 all got burn from Jalen during his college career.

Juwan Howard

Juwan Howard Michigan Nike

A certified sneakerhead in the amateur, professional and retired ranks, Juwan Howard saw his star blossom at the University of Michigan. Entering an early relationship with Nike while in college, Juwan rocked everything from the famous Nike Air Force Max to the also awesome Nike Air Maestro.

Jimmy King & Ray Jackson

Jimmy King Ray Jackson

Jimmy King and Ray Jackson were the wings that helped the Fab Five soar. Both swingmen laced up loads of Nike favorites during their days in Ann Arbor, including the likes of the Nike Air Strong and Nike Air Unlimited.

Maurice Taylor

Maurice Taylor Nike Zoom Flight 95

Ushering in the post-Fab Five era, Maurice Taylor took to the hardwood in a variety of famous models. The Nike Air Zoom Flight 95 in the “Carbon Fiber” colorway was a popular pair for Mo, as was the “Concord” Air Jordan 11.

Robert “Tractor” Traylor

A fan favorite on and off the court, Robert “Tractor” Traylor is a legend in Michigan hoops. When he was getting buckets or breaking backboards in Ann Arbor, #54 was known to wear some of the best from Nike and Jordan Brand, ranging from the Nike Air Flight Max to the “Flint” Air Jordan 13.

Louis Bullock & Robbie Ried

Ann Arbor’s amateur version of the Splash Brothers years before Steph and Klay hit the Bay, Louis Bullock and Robbie Ried were known to pull from absolutely anywhere. Though the post-Fab Five era may not have seen the deep tourney runs of the diaper dandies before them, there was still heat as the Nike Air Penny Max 1 and Jordan Team One got burn in the backcourt.

Charles Woodson

You’ve gotta be a boss to win the Heisman trophy as a defensive player. Charles Woodson was, well, that: a boss. The cornerback/wide receiver/return man brought Lloyd Carr a National Championship in 1997, capping off a collegiate career that saw him pick passes and score touchdowns in the likes of the Nike Air Speed Turf and Nike Air Pro Streak Max in cleated versions.

Jamal Crawford

Hooping in a headband, Jamal Crawford brought his Seattle swag to the Midwest during his days at Michigan. Only staying for one year, Jamal was a fan favorite, zipping up the Nike Air Flightposite One on occasion.

BRONX NEWS: MTA worker who fell to death honored by family, union at funeral

Grieving friends and family gathered Friday in the Bronx to say goodbye to the transit worker who fell to his death earlier this month.

As pictures of St. Clair Ziare Richards-Stephens played on a screen near the casket, uniformed members of Transport Workers Union Local 100 marched up the aisle and offered their comrade a final salute.

NYC Transit head Andy Byford also attended the funeral.

Local 100 President Tony Utano shared a few words with the crowd on behalf of Richards-Stephens’ co-workers.

“St. Clair was part of something bigger than all of us. He was a transit worker. And New York City is nothing without its transit workers,” Utano said.

Richards-Stephens had only been with NYC Transit six months before his fatal March 20 fall.

The 23-year-old was fatally injured in a subway corridor at 125th St. and Lexington Ave. right before the morning rush.

MTA officials had said it appeared he had been leaning on a railing on the local No. 6 train tracks that gave way.

The rookie track worker fell nine feet to the express tracks on his head. He died about an hour later, despite emergency workers’ attempts to save him.

Michael Graham, 54, a track worker who was friends with Richards-Stephens, said they attended orientation and track school together and were in the same work gang.

“St. Clair was a wonderful person. He had a big smile, he loved his job and he was a team player,” said Graham.

BRONX NEWS: BMW driver identified in deadly Bronx hit-and-run

A hit-and-run driver who slammed into a Bronx dad earlier this month — killing him on his 27th birthday — was identified by cops Friday.

Angel Rodriguez was named as the driver of the white 2017 BMW that crushed Wally Dominguez on March 19 in what police are calling a homicide.

At the moment of impact, Dominguez was standing behind an idling 2001 Chevrolet with an unidentified 24-year-old man on Third Ave. near 181st St. in Belmont just after 5 a.m.

Both pedestrians were pinned by Rodriguez’s luxe car, which then tried to back up before stopping, new video shows.

Moments later the front passenger door opened and someone ran off.

Cops discovered a gun on the street near the point of impact and shell casings under the BMW.

The 24-year-old victim standing next to Dominguez was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, but Dominguez couldn’t be saved.

BRONX NEWS: Man killed in Bronx drive-by shooting

A Bronx man was fatally shot in broad daylight Friday in a drive-by incident, cops said.

Reginald Taylor, 26, was walking on Freeman St. in Foxhurst around 2:15 p.m. when someone traveling in a Nissan squeezed off two rounds from a gun.

A slug struck Taylor in the right arm and then traveled into his stomach. He was pronounced dead four hours later.

“When the guy finished (shooting) … he was just gone,” said Luis Amadis, a tax preparer on the block who witnessed the crime.

What’s In Their Wardrobe? // Pete Wentz

Best known as Fall Out Boy’s bass player, lyricist, and supporting vocalist, Pete Wentz among other things is what you’d call a glam-metal fashion master. Aside from his own style, he even owns a brand that creates tour merchandise apparel for fellow punk bands Panic! at the Disco and Gym Class Heroes. One of the few bands left from the punk rock era, Wentz continues to keep the culture alive with his signature street edge and always being in the know on what’s trending and what’s about to be.

And just like FOB’s music has aged in a timeless manner, so has Pete Wentz’s style. What’s so admirable about his fashion sense is that he isn’t basing it purely on hype. He has a definitive look and that’s what makes it that much more inspiring.

Save Rock and Roll

While being one of the last survivors in a genre where rock and roll is almost non-existent, Pete Wentz still continues to keep the theme alive – at least from a style perspective. Known for wearing some of the hardest vintage band tees to track down, you could probably even classify him as a sneakerhead, as well as a band tee head.

What’s actually really cool about Pete is similar to when he surprises us with a grailed pair of sneakers, it’s also inspiring for how he pairs it. For him it has an effortless appeal and the fact that he actually is a musician himself makes all the oversized band tees that he owns actually look validated in terms of styling. Aside from that, it’s even inspiring how pairs some of these unexpected sneakers into the mix. Who knew how a pair of generic Blazers or Air Force 1s could actually end up completing his entire look?

Tryna' figure out what's more rockstar here. That Metallica tee or those visvim FBT's?

These Comme des Garçonnes Nike Blazers paired with Pete's vintage band tee accents his look with a punk edge.

All you need is one pair of black jeans, some Vans Old Skools and a rotation of band tees and you'll have minimal punk styling down in no time.

Thanks For The Memories; We’ll Build Them Into Our Wardrobes

Pete’s style is what you might call timeless in its own way, meaning it never looks out of place as the years pass. This concept makes it about ten times easier for focusing on picking up new sneakers as opposed to having to consistently upgrade your wardrobe. Each week on CSS, we’ve become accustomed to who the main players are in the sneaker community, but if you look back, there are those moments when you see someone who you just would’t expect to see in the feed, who in fact also has the most heat on — head to toe for that matter.

This pretty much sums up Pete Wentz for you. Not only surprising us with how much firepower he has in his sneaker rotation, but also his actual wardrobe assortment. With a combination of grailed Saint Laurent, Bape and visvim pieces, Wentz puts his own unique spin on giving them this LA skater look with a punk rock edge. One might say it’s almost Yeezy inspired. Minimal skinny jeans, oversized sweaters and hoodies.

Pete's nonchalant and understated wardrobe just might have you wishing you didn't sleep on those CDG Blazers.

A greyscale pairing with an embroidered sweater is sure to give your wardrobe a boost for spring.

Just when you thought Pete Wentz only wore black, what does he do? He pulls a rockstar move and switches it up with white jeans and a distressed denim jacket.

Yeezy MANIA

Even during Ye’s Nike days, Pete Wentz was always one of the consistent artists of the era repping the infamous Air Yeezy 2s in all three colorways. Before band tees and and skinny jeans had really taken full effect, Pete was rocking the timeless look that he does best along with the silhouette’s three coveted offerings.

Aside from the rare Nike commodity, the musician has also been spotted in an assortment of Yeezy’s adidas collection over the past couple years. Even through the transition, his style hasn’t evolved much. Mostly because how can you revolutionize greyscale tees and skinny jeans. Now it’s all about BOOST for Wentz, as he has been seen stepping out in everything from the Yeezy BOOST 350, the 750, and even the Calabasas Powerphase when he’s thinking extra minimal.

Pete's jam is anything that has Ye's stamp of approval.
