BRONX NEWS: Cops shoot knife-wielding man dead after responding to stabbing

Police fatally shot a knife-wielding man after responding to a stabbing in a Bronx home for the mentally ill on Monday, cop sources said.

The officers were responding to a report of two women stabbed at the Hughes House on Hughes Ave. and E. 178th St. in Tremont at about 7:45 p.m., sources said.

When they arrived, they encountered the man inside, sources said. He refused to drop the knife, and police shot him, critically wounding him, sources said.

Medics took the man, who has not been identified, to St. Barnabas Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved. Police did not release the injuries and conditions of the two women Monday night.

The 55-unit Hughes House is run by Urban Pathways, a nonprofit organization that offers supportive housing for mentally ill and homeless people.

The shooting comes roughly a year after one Hughes House resident fatally stabbed another in the neck, after the victim refused to lend him some money.

Perry Little, 70, died weeks after the Oct. 30 stabbing. Alleged attacker Marcus Graham, 47, remains jailed as he awaits prosecution on murder charges.

Urban Pathways did not immediately return messages seeking comment Monday night.
