The Nike Air Flight One remained quietly in the Nike Basketball archives since 1995, until in 2011, it manifested itself in the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP – a hybrid model containing the physical and spiritual aspects of the Nike Air Flight One, Air Foamposite One, and Air Go LWP. For the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, Nike will introduce the classic model as part of the Nike Sportswear Space Exploration Collection – a special glow-in-the-dark edition inspired by intergalactic themes. Release alongside that high-energy rendition is the original colorway of the Air Flight One, donned in a White/Blue/Black make-up reminiscent of Penny Hardaway’s Orlando Magic uniforms and coinciding with the destination city of this year’s All-Star Game festivities. Imprinted with the hypnotic graphic of galaxies, distant star systems, and Supernova, the Nike Foamposite One also pays homage to one of the most popular NBA player to date – Penny Hardaway, who started his career with the Orlando Magic. On a polyurethane midsole and Zoom Air unit at the heel, Nike Foamposite One remains a head turner long after its introduction thanks to the unique upper, one which challenge conventional design at the time, a poignant similarity when the NASA Space Program first took shape at Cape Canaveral some 50 years ago.

After taking a look at both the blue/grey and the rogue green Nike Dunk high 2012 NBA All-Star Galactic colorways, we take a look at the last one from said collection. This third and final colorway comes in a flat gold base with a peach-colored Nike swoosh. If you’ve been staying tuned to Freshness, you know doubt know by now that about Nike’s galactic theme surrounding their massive set of NBA All-Star Game 2012 releases. With the game taking place in Florida, a well known NASA hub, the tie-in feels like a relevant place for Nike to start from. Again drawing from the various entities that have made Florida great, the pack is anchored by a set of Penny Hardaway signature models, with one of the most exciting being the Nike Air Flight One shown here. Coming back out of nowhere for a surprise retro treatment, both pairs from the Space Exploration pack will drop on Thursday, February 23rd at NikeStore online as well as a handful of premium retailers. After last year’s release of the Diamond Turf, it’s no surprise to see the return of the Nike Air Diamond Turf II. This model sports a colorway one would relate to the San Francisco 49ers; donning black, white, and metallic gold on the upper and red on the sockliner. Sneakerheads had January to catch our breaths after an utterly immense spread of heat during the holiday season, but Nike has cranked it back up already to the point where it’s almost starting to feel like Christmas in February. From the Black History Month 2012 models to those commemorating this year’s NBA All-Star Game and a bunch of key drops in between, February has brought us a ton of pleasant surprises including the Nike Air Foamposite One ‘Galaxy’ releasing along with the rest of the ASG buffet. Once thought to be a concept sample never to see the light of retail, this first-ever application of a graphical print to the original Foamposite silhouette keeps in line with the NASA-inspired theme, and might just be the single most impressive design we’ve seen for NBA All-Star 2012. Once reported as a Saturday drop, NikeStore now expects to have these on Thursday, February 23rd, and you can see some crisp new images of the supernova-emblazoned ‘Galaxy’ Foamposite Ones after the jump.

Rounding out the Nike Basketball ASG releases from their flagship stars is the Kobe VII.
The kicks rock telescopic inspired imagery throughout the upper with a supernova graphic adorning the entire TPU section. Coupled with a black midsole and glow-in-the-dark outsole, the Kobe VII is finished off with silver accents and a mamba snake mission patch on the heel.

Like most of the themes and holidays we’ve explored over the past year or so, Nike’s output for Black History Month 2012 has been its most expansive so far. The Nike Air Force 1 Low has been around the longest, and this year’s model anchors a collection that spreads its theme across four Nike Sportswear silhouettes and three more from the Basketball division. Key details include the ‘UPLIFT’-emblazoned, wildly patterned sockliner and footbed, a print duplicated on the translucent bottoms of this otherwise earthy suede design. So they’re a break from the ongoing black and gold BHM theme from years gone by, but quite strongly tied to the rest of this year’s Nike Black History Month releases; where do they stand in each category? Each pair in the set is slated for a February 11th release, and you’ll find the 2012 Black History Month Air Force 1s at select shops like Millennium Shoes.

The uncertainty stops as we see what will be the retail version of the Nike Air Foamposite One “Galaxy”. This pair gravitates towards the recent images we’ve seen, sporting a dark, spacey upper over a glow-in-the-dark sole.
