DJI has taken the wraps off the Mavic Air, the Chinese manufacturer’s most compact drone yet. A sequel to the DJI Mavic Pro, the new model is around 40% smaller than its predecessor, with rotor arms that fold down to make it around the same size as your smartphone (albeit a very fat smartphone). Despite its compact size, the Air packs fairly impressive specs, including a camera mounted on a three-axis gimbal, capable of shooting 4K video at 24 or 30 frames per second, as well as 12-megapixel stills and 32-megapixel panoramic images, all with a wide-angle 24mm f/2.8 lens. The machine tops out at 42.5 miles per hour and can withstand winds of up to 22 miles per hour, while the range is rated at 2.5 miles, and flight time on a full charge lasts around 21 minutes. Included in the 9 price is a seven-camera obstacle avoidance system, better gesture controls and a new remote. The Mavic Air is available for purchase now at dji.com
