  • wow, what a shot! this image is rich in so many ways- the more you look at it the more incredible details you discover. taken as a whole, it’s a fabulous urban composition, developed to a t!

  • a story begin here !!!

  • Wonderful composition – caught at just the right moment

  • Cool shot from a cool area, was this taken on Gansevoort Street?

  • Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Image Gallery / B&W !!!, and we’d love to have this added to the group!

    Packer !!!!!!

  • Great shot and find Barry, I always loved that Memorix Ad, the guy in the shot looks like he’s from the 50′s and the B&W helps it along. Great stuff!!!

  • love that he’s walking in the middle of the street ……… fab graffiti and candid !!

  • You have a great eye for these kind of shots…everything comes together just at the right moment!

  • do I see a tv commercial in this? great textures and light and lamp! LOL!!

  • Barry – you’ve got some incredible work here.!
    good street image here.

Did you get to the Mermaid Parade ??

  • thanks everyone.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/31664871@N06] this is on 13th near 9th ave. here’s the same spot in January ’10 and June ’09:

massive Elbow Toe, Gaia, Mr Brainwash...

    Madonna & Angelina

  • awesome! do you know if they are all from the same artist?

  • [http://www.flickr.com/photos/70945486@N00] Hey Arthur! Yep, I was there. I enjoyed looking through your shots.

  • There’s a capture!:) Gr8 timing here my friend~!~

  • [http://www.flickr.com/photos/23061481@N06] the john lennon / panda is by elbow toe, the giant bird gaia, and the marilyn/angelina/memorex guy are from mr brainwash. and speaking of mr brainwash, i totally recommend seeing exit through the gift shop…you won’t look at the mural the same again ;)

  • nice catch! Did you catch the sticker job someone did on it a couple of days ago.. seems Mr. Brainwash is not so popular with a lot of local artists… (the whole sell out thing most likely)

    Seen in some comments. (?)

  • wow, Barry- i didn’t realize you were such a goldmine of street art information! thanks so much! i’ve heard great reviews of that movie but haven’t gotten the chance to see it yet– i definitely will make an effort to, thanks!

  • congratulations on the self-development…….one of these days I have to give that a shot……but what I really am impressed about is the composition of this shot…..perfect character to star in this shot…..

fascinating info on the street artists…..one never really thinks much about these guys…..apparently it’s a whole world unto itself….

  • love this wall!!!! he looks so… different in his white suite… :) ))

  • I really admire the street work. This is nice.

  • Whoa lots of good stuff here..
is that a maxwell ad wheat paste?

  • Great capture..!!

  • stunning shot ! regards !-)

  • cool collage feel :)

  • Perfect! Black suit..white suit..love it!

  • Great shot, though I am not a Mr Brainwash fan (in my opinion he is kind of…). Exit through the Gift Shop was excellent. Claire, you can find it at the Sunshine Theater on Houston St.
This all being said, I love the photo of the guy on the cell phone it is almost like he is blowing hot air into the Memorex guy… Great timing!

  • thanks again everybody.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/22882051@N02] maxwell or memorex? i can’t remember. then again, i can’t remember the last time i listed to an audio casette either…

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/41598073@N03] some of his stuff i like, some of it…not so much. the movie certainly puts it into a new light ;)

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/41089974@N07] i’ve seen photos, but not in person yet.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/23061481@N06] I have to say, the majority of what I know about street art was learned from Luna Park’s excellent photostream. I don’t think there’s anyone else covering that world as well or as throughly as she is.

  • what a wonderful shot! love the composition here!

    great work!

  • love the wall…am heading to NYC next month and look forward to meat-ing this wall in person ;-) )
    a delicious candid indeed!!

  • [http://www.flickr.com/photos/43155663@N07] Thanks.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/28217693@N02] I look forward to seeing your photographic take on NYC!

  • Caught him at the perfect time to be against the sole blank spot in the entire wall. It’s as if you’ve added on a new layer in the same manner that new street art jumbles on and around existing pieces. A tribute to the medium, then. Great job!

  • Great shot!!

  • Awesome shot!!!! I got chased down by brainwash’s crew right after finishing the face!!!!! I mean i was caught, but i kept running as i got to the concrete i jumped on my bike and got away, i heard the crowd who was watching while eating outside cheer. Exhilirating.

  • @a_painternyc, ha that’s too funny. It makes a nice addition so glad you were able to put it up there and escape.

  • Fantastic composition!!!!!! Like the b&w processing too!

  • Awesome Brain Wash graffiti!
