C.C. Sabathia has had the honor of being the Opening Day starter for the New York Yankees for three straight seasons (and eight out of nine overall including his time with the Indians). Unfortunately, the Yankees are 1-2 when C.C. starts Opening Day, but at least he wears some dope cleats! Here’s a look at the Air Jordan XI ‘Cool Grey’ that C.C. wore during his start against the Boston Red Sox on April 4th, 2010; these cleats are bit higher-cut than the released basketball version and also features a unique baseball-specific midsole and spikes. Will C.C. start for the Yankees again in 2012? As of now, it certainly appears so. In late October, Sneaker News showed you a rare piece of Air Jordan memorabilia – an Air Jordan 2010 autographed by Michael Jordan and the legendary footwear architect Tinker Hatfield. It’s extremely rare to see an Air Jordan signed by both icons of footwear history, but MJ and Tinker came together (with MJ donating the sneakers from his own collection) to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon. In fact, this particular pair is the only Air Jordan in existence with both signatures, and Tinker himself has provided a letter of authenticity to prove that what you’re bidding on is truly a piece of history (and all for a great cause!). The Nike Mag 2011 is undoubtedly the best sneaker release of the year and perhaps the last decade. Leading up to 2011′s magnanimous return of the self-lacing (sorta) sneakers was the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk ‘McFly’ that released in 2008. Inspired by the grey/like blue/pink tones seen on the original Mag, the Hyperdunk ‘McFly’ was an instant hit and to this day, remains as one of the most coveted sneakers of this generation. The sequel to the Hyperdunk was the Hyperdunk 2010, and a ‘McFly’ version was also devised utilizing a similar colorway from the Hyperdunk ‘McFly’. These, however, never did release, but a few samples did manage to make their way into the hands of some lucky recipients and collectors. In the summer of 2010 Nike and USA Basketball hosted the inaugural World Basketball Festival in New York City, a four-day celebration of the culture at large that surrounds the game, as well as its increasingly global reach. Leading up to the event, Nike’s Make Something program, set up to introduce kids to the opportunities in the world of arts, hosted a series of workshops in which attendees worked with creatives like Todd James and Ari Marcopoulos to design a product collection inspired by the countries competing in the World Basketball Festival: the U.S., China, Puerto Rico, France and Brazil. The resulting Hyperdunk 2010 Make Something pack is now set to release. It consists of a pair of Hyperdunk 2010 and a matching Destroyer Jacket, with each set corresponding to one of the participating countries from the World Basketball Festival. Look for the collection to drop this Friday at 21 Mercer.

The game of basketball has spread an infectious desire of unity on a global level, and last year, Nike Basketball teamed up with Jordan Brand and Converse Basketball to present the World Basketball Festival, a celebration of the sport that has made an impact on a number of countries. This Friday, Nike Basketball will release a special pack of the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2010 titled the ‘Make Something’ Collection, featuring five country-specific colorways ornately designed with iconic imagery of each nation. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington was presented a special gift by legendary designer Tinker Hatfield – a pristine pair of the Air Jordan 2010 autographed by himself and Michael Jordan from Michael’s own collection. This rare piece of Jordan Brand memorabilia is the only on in existence, but the Ronald McDonald House Charity House, with the help of a local sports radio broadcast, will auction off this masterpiece with all final supporting the RMHC mission. The auctions will be hosted by the radio station beginning December 5th and ending December 9th. No, that isn’t a typo – the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 is set to return this November.
Despite the recent Hyperdunk 2011 drops, Nike is releasing a special 2010 FIBA pack next month. Featuring U.S., Brazil, China, Puerto Rico, and France colorways, each Hyperdunk sports special country-specific colorways and designs.
The FIBA pack is set to drop Friday, November 11, for 5 at select Nike retailers.

Although we’ve already made the transition to the Nike Zoom Hyperdunk 2011, last year’s Hyperdunk flagship still made noise in 2011 thanks to a look at the unreleased ‘McFly’ colorway. The original Nike Hyperdunk was in fact inspired by the fictional Nike Mag that was featured in the classic Back To The Future film franchise, and so the ‘McFly’ version of the Hyperdunk was born and became one of the most coveted sneakers in recent years. Unfortunately, likely due to legal issues and similar to the scrapped ‘McFly’ Hypermax from 2009, no release of the Hyperdunk 2010 version is likely at this point, but if you’ve been wanting to cop a pair of the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 McFly, you’re in luck, because one of the rare size 9 samples just became available for sale.
