Nike MAG 2015 – Officially Unveiled

Nike MAG 2016 Release Date

The Self Lacing Nike MAG has officially been unveiled by the brand and won’t release until Spring 2016 via auction. Many of us expected this, however there was still hope with today being Back to The Future Day.

The pair that Michael J. Fox received is known as the 2015 Nike Mag which through a string of social media updates finally posted a video showcasing how they work.

According to Nike, the Nike Mag 2016 ‘Power Laces’ actually senses the motion and adapts according to comfort and support. On a side-note, it seems that Nike is testing the power lacing system on other shoes across different sports which we could see in the near future.

Although Nike is calling them the 2015 Nike Mag, the shoes won’t actually release until Spring 2016. Furthermore, this won’t be your typical launch. You won’t be able to purchase them on NikeStore.com but just like the 2011 release, Nike will be auctioning pairs off. Proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. See below for more images and check back with us for additional details.

Michael J. Fox posted a video of the self lacing Nike Mag. According to the video there are buttons placed on the inside of the tongue which will tighten, loosen and even turn the lights on and off. (Full video can be seen on the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research FaceBook Page)

Nike Announces Release Details for the 2015 Self-Lacing Nike Mag

Nike Announces Release Details for the 2015 Self Lacing Nike Mag

It’s Back to the Future Day today, and the future is officially here. It began last night with a cryptic tweet from Nike to Michael J. Fox saying “see you tomorrow.” Less than 24 hours later, Fox was sharing a hand-written letter from Tinker Hatfield, who let the Back to the Future actor know he’d be the first recipient of a pair of self-lacing Nike Mags. That was followed in short order by a photo showing Fox wearing a pair of the space-age kicks, and then a too-brief video depicting the same.

Now, Nike has unveiled the release details for the shoe that was developed under incredibly unique circumstances. As Nike CEO Mark Parker puts it, “We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes.” That particular technology is what Nike calls “power laces,” featuring an individually responsive system that senses the wearer’s motion and consequently provides adaptive, on-demand comfort and support. The 2015 Nike Mag with power laces will be available exclusively via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The specific details on the auctions will be posted in Spring 2016.

30 years in the making, the Nike MAG 2015 with power laces has been officially unveiled. Set to release in Spring 2016, all proceeds will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

While the power laces debuted in this shoe reference the movie that predicted the future, the technology is said to be more than just novelty but eventual athletic innovation. While the OG Marty McFly has his own pair and the power laces will appear in the 2016 auction release, it is alluded that performance models from the Swoosh will eventually pack the same tech.

Earlier this past January 2015, during Agenda‘s Emerge in Long Beach, California, iconic Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, announced that his team was working on delivering the much coveted Nike MAG with power laces this year – the same very year in which Marty McFly traveled to the future in the film, Back to the Future II.

With October 21, 2015 being that exact date, (which is tomorrow), Nike’s official twitter account unveils a major hint at the possibility (most likely) — the reveal of the much anticipated Nike MAG with power laces. A quick message to Michael J. Fox who played Marty McFly, reads “see you tomorrow.”

Stay tuned in for more.

BRONX NEWS: Best NYC High schools 2015: Bronx High School of Science

When Jean Donahue was a student at the Bronx High School of Science in the 1970s, computer science was just an elective.

“I can remember this giant IBM computer that took up half the room, and the punch cards,” said Donahue, now in her third year leading one of the highest-ranked schools in the nation.

Times have changed, and the school has modernized its focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known as STEM.

The school doesn’t stop at simply teaching students about STEM fields. Through hackathons, advanced programming and engineering classes, and a summer design lab where students can patent their inventions, students are tasked to create.

“For the 21st century, it’s not enough to just master a set of skills, we have to foster creativity, foster innovation,” Donahue said.

With district funds and alumni donations, the school renovated several classrooms into new computer science, engineering and robotics labs ready to use this year. Laser cutters and 3-D printers are housed in the engineering lab, band saws and drill presses in the robotics lab.

“The moment I walked in, I was like, ‘Wow’ — our space was transformed into a state-of-the-art facility,” said senior Jenny Li.

Along with revitalizing some facilities, Donahue has worked to move the school past a 2013 hazing scandal during the tenure of the previous principal, Valerie Reidy.

“That incident was really still very untypical of what happens,” Donahue said. “It’s a very unfortunate incident, but we have addressed that in terms of our supervision of students and our ‘Respect for All’ program.”

Donahue said it’s a priority to create a supportive environment for incoming students to succeed when they’re among thousands of others at the Bedford Park campus. Students need top scores on a rigorous entrance exam to get into Bronx Science, the alma mater to eight Nobel laureates and six Pulitzer Prize winners.

“It’s really not a cutthroat atmosphere here,” Donahue said. “Our students collaborate more than compete, and that’s really the model that we try to foster.”

She instituted a support program for freshmen that includes summer orientation and peer mentorship from upperclassmen on time management, study skills and more.

“We realized we were asking the students to do all these things without any orientation or guidance,” said Andrew Nasser, assistant principal of student guidance, who oversees the freshman support program.

A few weeks into the start of the school year, Bronx Science held its after-school fair showcasing the dozens of student clubs, like the Rubik’s Cube Club, Muslim Student Association, Living Poets Society, Improv Club, Urban Dance Club and robotics teams.

While watching a robot her teammate maneuvered along the cafeteria floor, Violet Killy, captain of the all-girl robotics team, FeMaidens, and now a senior, remembered visiting several of the city’s top schools before deciding to attend Bronx Science.

“What honestly stood out to me the most is there was a lot of competition between students at the other schools,” Killy said, “but here it’s more competition against yourself.”
