Josh Rosen Talks Parley x adidas Partnership & Environmental Activism

Josh Rosen is best known for slinging spirals, but when he’s not tossing touchdowns it turns out he’s very much about Planet Earth.

The recent rookie adidas signee was on hand at the Parley Run for the Oceans event to talk more than just kicks, touching on everything from his mother’s impact on his environmental consciousness to his own tips for being more aware on how to preserve nature.

See what Josh had to say below.

Nice Kicks: You’re entering your pro career as a member of the adidas Family. What factors went into signing with The Three Stripes?

Josh Rosen: I wore adidas in college. I like the brand, but for the most part, it was Parley that kind of threw me over the edge. They’re a company that actually cares about their impact. Cares about doing good in society. Not just trying to make money. That was the biggest reason for picking adidas.

Nice Kicks: In regards to doing good for society and Planet Earth, when did your interest first begin?

Josh Rosen: My mom is an environmentalist. She drilled it on me as a kid. I was raised to care about my environment. I lived near the water and the oceans. It’s always been close to my heart. I’ve been inspired by Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth and Leonardo DiCaprio’s activism in the environmental community. Pop culture needs to take responsibility to point kids in the right direction for caring and doing good for society.

Nice Kicks: For fans of yours, what advice would you give in regards to taking care of our environment?

Josh Rosen: The broad stroke is just to be aware of what you’re doing. Whether you’re aware where your food comes from or looking into composting. Whatever it is, just be aware of it. Investing in solar panels. Getting an electric car. Be aware of your impact. Be aware of the things you’re doing. Any step is a good step. With adidas, I hopefully inspire kids to start thinking about their footprint.

Nice Kicks: Parley is obviously looking out for the oceans, how do you look out for the desert in your new home of Arizona?

Josh Rosen: First Solar is a big company out in Arizona. One of the largest solar companies in the country. There are a lot of different food conservation groups trying to figure out how to keep life going up in the desert. [Laughs] It’s a little different. I’ll definitely figure out a way to get adidas out there and maybe a Run for the Desert. [Laughs]

Nice Kicks: Why is it so important for athletes to stand up for social causes?

Josh Rosen: In today’s unique political climate, not just athletes but pop-culture in general needs to take a responsibility to inspire kids to do good and be good. It’s sort of the tagline I’ve been telling myself for months as I’ve been debating what companies and businesses I want to partner myself with. I want to make it cool to do good. I want to make it cool to be a good person. I was recycling and caring about the environment growing up and I was getting made fun of a little bit. I don’t want kids to have to overcome obstacles to do good things.

Nice Kicks: How do you plan on taking your message to the field?

Josh Rosen: Hopefully adidas will let me wear Parley cleats this season. I’m trying to create an impact and awareness around an actual cause so that hopefully we can pressure other athletes and important companies into being socially aware and socially conscientious. I’m trying to extend the footprints of those who’ve come before me such as the Chris Longs, the J.J. Watts and the Malcolm Jenkins of the world. We’re in very interesting times in this country and I think like many times before us such as what Jim Brown did with the civil rights movement, right now is a unique time to, again, sort of have pop-culture athletes grasp ahold of the youth in this generation and point them in the right direction.

Nice Kicks: Will the social involvement of adidas set the tone for your future partnerships as an NFL athlete?

Josh Rosen: Every company that I partner with and establish relationship with I would want to have, not just an environment, but a socially aware and conscientious piece and awareness in the company. I want to partner with companies that have some sort of cause for the greater good.

Nice Kicks LA Hosts Dinner, Event to Celebrate Adidas POD

Twenty hand-selected individuals were invited to the Nice Kicks LA shop for Friday evening to celebrate the arrival of Adidas’ latest shoe – the Adidas POD. The people selected for the evening event included LA-based artists, curators, and creators. Upon arrival, many conversations took place over drinks before walking upstairs to the Adidas floor in the Nice Kicks LA space that included a buildout for the Point Of Deflection System.

Hosted by Denise Jones, attendees were given an overview of some of the latest products from Adidas along with a quick breakdown of the Adidas POD System. Adidas’ new Point Of Deflection System utilizes three key components that are by every measure sound individually, but together build a fantastic shoe. Each of the three primary elements of the Adidas POD was good on their own, but together created something much better. The heel features Boost where you need it most in a cutaway shape that drew inspiration from a shoe from the Adidas archive from the early 90s. The forefoot of the shoe gives more bounce with every step with responsive EVA and a side profile similar to that of

Following the walkthrough of the product, things were brought full circle by Denise when she drew the parallel that each of the twenty individuals was good alone, but could be better together.

Eyebrows raised and heads nodded – the tone for the evening was set.

Nice Kicks LA transformed the first floor of the space for the evening removing every single fixture and shelf to create a unique atmosphere.

Renowned chef and restauranteur Michael Hung created an exclusive three-course dinner for the evening drawing inspiration from the three primary components of the Adidas POD.

Projected onto the 20-seat dining table was content created around each dish and its connection to the different part of the shoe it represented which took storytelling to new heights as well as a unique combination of senses.

After each course was introduced and enjoyed, the table was filled with conversation and collaboration between individuals sharing insights and opinions on not just past work but the direction they see for the future.

Alexander Wang Debuts New Silhouette With Latest adidas Originals Collection

New York-based designer Alexander Wang has created something special with his adidas Originals collaboration. Forging a foundational aesthetic that doubles in uniformity, Wang has masterfully stepped outside the traditional sartorial space and crafted an undeniable look that’s become as consistent as it is accessible. And things this great are rarely accessible.

For Wang’s third season drop three, he’s introduces a new silhouette — the AW Turnout Trainer. A subversive design that leans towards the offering’s overarching theme where production flaws operate as beautiful mishaps, varying textures ignite the low-cut style that juxtaposes multi-sport tooling and running-inspired design cues. The shoe will release alongside key apparel pieces like a half-zip windbreaker, women’s tank dress and more.

Expect the adidas AW Turnout Trainer on June 23rd at select retail destinations and online at both adidas.com and alexanderwang.com.

adidas Harden Vol. II “MVP” Surfaces Ahead of NBA Awards

Next Monday, on June 25th, the long-awaited NBA Awards will air on TNT. It’s a new forum for the league and an equally foreign platform for fans. We’ve grown accustom to MVP awards (and others) being dealt long before the playoffs come to a close. We’re now left to our own devices to determine who our MVP may be even after the NBA Finals. The majority, by in large, assume this year’s winner is James Harden.

Adidas Basketball is certainly of that majority. The German sportswear brand has already produced MVP themed sneakers including this one seen through his second signature silhouette. Largely done in black, gold accents that ode to Harden’s assumed trophy circle the shoe hitting hardest at the tongue logo and forefoot three stripes. An “MVP” lace jewel is a fixture at the midsection while a multi-colored marbled outer rest below black color Boost.

Foot Locker’s release calendar indicates that the adidas Harden Vol. II “MVP” will release alongside a Harden Vol. 2 LS and the Harden B/E 2 trio on June 23, two days before the NBA Awards. Stay tuned for more details.

Earlier this year, adidas Originals released the Kamanda, a next-gen silhouette with design roots in Three-Stripes history. That blend of old and new is repeated in the upcoming Sobakov, featuring design underpinnings reminiscent of vintage soccer models like the Samba. It’s seen in the gum rubber sole unit and flat tongue, though the Sobakov is updated for the 21st century with a knitted upper and a stylized rendition of the signature three-stripe trademark. Check out detailed looks in the gallery below and expect the kicks to hit retailers in the coming weeks.

Sneakersnstuff Debuts adidas Consortium 4D Collaboration

Sneakersnstuff is rolling lately with equity injections and now, more direct to this platform, sneaker collaborations. Aligning with adidas Consortium for a release later this month, the Swedish retailer takes on the brand’s 4D silhouette produced through an inventive Digital Light Synthesis methodology.

Said technologically savvy procedure is noted at the model’s midsole while the upper utilizes a seamless knit upper. Colored in navy and maroon, the lush two-tone body is stabilized by the same 4D midsole noted on the famed Futurecraft 4D.

This limited edition SNS x adidas Consortium 4D collaboration will be as difficult to secure as the Futurecraft 4D by comparison. SNS will not release the shoe online. Instead, pairs can be purchased by raffle winners and subsequently picked up at one of the shop’s several retail destinations. A raffle drawing for winners takes place on June 20 10am CET. Pairs are priced at 9 USD.
