The Nike Air Classic BW is the less heralded cousin of Air Max 1 and 90 models, one of the first runners to feature a visible Air sole unit (“BW” is, of course, short for “big window”). The shoe’s popularity overseas is evidenced by a number of releases in variety of colorways — compared to the trickle of releases we in the states are treated to each year — and this new style in a white-based hue makes for a great summertime pair of kicks. The search for the next great basketball star begins next Saturday, April 14th, as Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena hosts the 11th annual Jordan Brand Classic. A triple-header event with international contenders duke it out for the title. Then a match between regional talents before the All-American Game concludes the day-long competition. As a way to inaugurate the newest Air Jordan, the Air Jordan 2012 Deluxe, players on both sides will fashion a special edition the new design. For the East, it will be one with University Blue/White-Obsidian while the Team Orange/Cool Grey variant will be Team West’s signature. Each featuring pebble leather accents, brogue finishes, and a Jordan Brand Classic branding on the tongue, both versions will be available for purchase on April 11th at select Jordan Brand retail locations with a suggested retail price of 3. Sneaker News just showed you the first Nike Air Classic BW VT colorway and now here’s another coming to market this season with the same blocking pattern. You’ll notice here that the key to keeping this beautiful balance was switching the ‘light’ and ‘dark’ distribution, in this case fulfilled by the orange Big Window frame and branding, and the Anthracite suede upper, respectively. Maintaining this 85/15 split while reversing the polarity we saw on that earlier Wolf Grey edition makes for a different finished look, but one whose sufficiently impressive that it suggests plenty more solid designs that execute a similar recipe. Given how many of the recent pairs have been Euro exclusives, and that zero of those have come with high profile collaborators, it seems like most Nike Air Classic BWs sneak up on us these days. So while this new variation on the classic Big Window came out of nowhere, it’s pretty close to what happens every time the former Air Max IV is reissued.
