Jordan Brand Unveils the Air Jordan x Converse ‘The 2 That Started It All’ Pack

Air Jordan Converse The 2 That Started It All Pack

Michael Jordan’s Love for the Game is the true inspiration from the Air Jordan x Converse collaboration which is known as ‘The 2 That Started It All Pack’. Releasing on June 28th, 2017 for 0 and includes the Air Jordan 2 and the Converse Fastbreak Mid.

When Michael Jordan signed his first professional contract it came with a unique clause allowing participation in competitive off-season pickup games. Specifically, this clause allowed for Jordan’s “Love of the Game” (a desire to play anywhere, anytime), regardless of potential liability.

Jordan’s relentless pursuit of off-season competition was solidified before his pro career even began. During high school, he spent countless summer days at Wilmington’s Empie Park challenging anyone who would accept. This embrace of playground hoops also continued during trips home from the University of North Carolina.

The most memorable examples of the “Love of the Game” contract clause are the famous UNC alumni games that took place in 1986 and 1987. While the September 6, 1986 game was played between Tar Heel alumni during the Dedication of the Dean Edward Smith Center, the June 28, 1987 game raised the stakes by making it against a star-studded rival alumni team. Never missing an opportunity to compete, MJ shined in both games while wearing his second signature sneaker. Not only did MJ put on a show, he also unknowingly debuted his original player edition, or PE colorway. In the 1986 game, he wore the Chicago home colorway of the Air Jordan II that featured a never-before-seen detail — Carolina Blue on the heel. In the 1987 game, he opted for a low version of the II in his alma mater’s team colors. Now, the II returns to honor both games by combining the original 1986 PE II with the 1987 game date.

MJ’s refusal to skip the 1984 games is another classic example of his “Love of the Game.” Having just been drafted, it was arguably in his best interest to decline, but instead he helped lead the USA men’s basketball team to a gold medal. During the games, he wore his favorite Converse model, the Fastbreak. To honor his memorable performances in Converse sneakers at the University of North Carolina (including a national title) and in the 1984 Olympics, the Fastbreak returns in Carolina Blue.

Converse & Jordan Brand Team Up on the “Love of the Game” Pack

Image via: Nike

Image via: Nike

Michael Jordan’s first professional contract contained a unique clause: the “Love of the Game” proviso would allow the UNC grad to compete in off-season pickup games. MJ would go on to invoke the clause for a UNC alumni game in 1986, in which he unknowingly debuted his original player edition, a Chicago “home” colorway of the Air Jordan 2, featuring Carolina Blue on the heel. The following year, he opted for a low version of the 2 in his alma mater’s team colors. Jordan Brand combines the designs of each of those Air Jordan 2 models for the new “Love of the Game” pack, twinned with the Converse Fastbreak, the shoe that Michael wore during the 1984 Games.

Check out detailed looks below, and expect the “Love of the Game” pack to hit stores on June 28.

Michael Jordan’s Converse Fastbreak Mid Worn in 1984 Olympics Sold for a Record Breaking $190,373

Michael Jordan Converse Fastbreak 1984 Olympics

With the Air Jordan x Converse Pack releasing later this month, here is something not your average sneaker head could obtain. Available at auction was Michael Jordan’s game worn and dual signed Converse Fastbreak Mid. He wore this pair during the 1984 Olympics and sold for a record breaking 0,373 at SCP Auctions.

Previously the highest auction was on the Air Jordan 12 ‘Flu Game’ which was worn by Jordan during the infamous game and autographed. They sold for 4,765. As for the Converse Fastbreak Mid at auction, this is the last pair worn by MJ in competition as an amateur and was obtained by a ballboy.

The shoes have some wear and tear from over the years and probably originally featured a White and Black theme. This of course differs from the Jordan x Converse Pack which will feature accents of UNC Blue.

More images of the shoes along with Michael Jordan playing in them can be seen below. That us know your thoughts of this iconic piece of Jordan history in the comments section below.
