Kicks On Court: Kobe Unwraps “Christmas” Shoes & Nick Young Revisits LeBron’s “First Game”

The Staples Center in Los Angeles is an extremely busy arena right now. In addition to hosting back-to-back games in the Lakers vs. Thunder series, the world-class arena is also in the midst of hosting back-to-back games in the Clippers vs. Spurs series and playoff games for the Kings, Los Angeles’ professional hockey team. Additionally, Staples is the center of attention in our Kicks On Court column today. In the first matchup there yesterday, we spotted Nick Young in the “First Game” Nike Air Zoom Generation. If you recall, this was the very shoe LeBron James played his first NBA game in back in October of 2003, hence the nickname of this shoe. In the second bout, the Black Mamba celebrated Christmas in May by rocking the “Christmas/Cheetah” Kobe VIIs in a loss to the Thunder. You may remember Kobe bringing these out during the first game of the 2011-2012 NBA season on Christmas Day. Nick Young and Kobe Bryant shared the spotlight today, but who rocked the best shoes on court between the two? Let us know in the voting poll below.

Kicks On Court: Black Mamba Rocks Green Laces in New Kobe VII PE

Kobe Bryant is now 3-for-3 with his Kobe VII player exclusives in the Lakers vs. Thunder series. In last night’s Game 3, the Black Mamba pulled out yet another colorway of his seventh signature shoe; this particular pair will probably raise eyebrows more than the others. Sure, it features a typical Lakers-esque color scheme with a mainly white base and minimal purple and yellow accents, but Bryant incorporated green laces in this PE. What’s your thoughts on the green laces in these Kobe VIIs? What do you think is the significance of the green laces? View these shoes plus more, worn by Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Rajon Rondo and others, in today’s edition of Kicks On Court.

Also, stay tuned later today to hear from Ty Lawson about his top Kicks On Court moments, and get the rundown of Gilbert Arenas’ top moments in today’s Kicks On Court Weekly Recap.

Nike Zoom Kobe VII – Concord – Cool Grey | Arriving At Retailers

Nike Zoom Kobe VII Concord Cool Grey | Arriving At Retailers

Kobe will need to bounce back against the Thunder for Game 2 if he wants to keep this series competitive because thus far, the Thunder have the Lakers outmatched in almost every category. But don’t underestimate the Black Mamba, who has demonstrated a killer instinct and can become one of the most unstoppable forces from time to time. Kobe’s been bouncing back and forth between the Kobe VII Supreme and the higher-grade Elite in the Playoffs, but perhaps he’ll go with this Saturday’s release of the Concord/Cool Grey to mix it up a bit. The Lakers are indeed in dire need for some change, so hopefully a wardrobe change is all Kobe needed to get a different outlook on the game. More of this colorway below, so take a look and expect them this Saturday at Nike Basketball retailers like Social Status or right now on eBay.

Nike Zoom Kobe VII Supreme – Playoff PE

Nike Zoom Kobe VII Supreme Playoff PE

“What the Kobe?!” is an expression fairly close to what Laker fans have been feeling as their team narrowly avoided defeat at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, but the Black Mamba wore decidedly calmer sneakers for the first round than the wild animal-printed color study with that nickname.  Instead of Cheetahs or Wolves or Poison Dart Frogs, Kobe has opted for the simple yet effective PE colorups on the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Supreme.  Pictured above is a brand new offering in that same Elite-ish style, a two-toned Zoom Kobe 7 player exclusive that looks right at home as an ‘Away’ style juxtaposed against a white ‘Home’ edition.  Check them out in greater detail below, let us know which you’d be more likely to replicate on NIKEiD and stick with Sneaker News for more 2012 playoff kicks in our NBA Feet feature.  Photos: betovision
