Kyrie Irving Pays Respect to Kobe and Bruce Lee with the Nike Kyrie 3 ‘Mamba Mentality’

Nike Kyrie 3 Mamba Mentality Release Date

Nike Basketball has just unveiled the Nike Kyrie 3 ‘Mamba Mentality’ also known as Brice Lee that will release on September 15th.

At first thought, Kobe Bryant and Kyrie Irving have little in common with Bruce Lee. However, the basketball and martial arts stars do share striking personal and philosophical similarities.

Wisdom, focus and individuality bond them. Specifically, Bryant and Irving are inspired by Lee’s famous words, “Always be yourself. Express yourself. Have faith in yourself.”

Irving is intimately aware of this connection, and first expressed it when he was 17 while playing in the Nike Extravaganza in California. He channeled his inner mamba by wearing a special Kobe 5 that was inspired by the late martial artist, actor and philosopher, Lee. Now 25, Irving commemorates that moment and pays tribute to Byrant as mentor and friend with a special edition of the Nike Kyrie 3.

Nike Kyrie 3 Mamba Mentality Colorway Info

The Nike Kyrie 3 Mamba Mentality features the following elements that modernize the original KOBE 5, which remains one of Irving’s all-time favorite shoes. The yellow and black contrasted upper pays tribute to Lee’s trademark colors. Four Red slash marks connect to Lee. A snakeskin-inspired medial side represents the black mamba, fading to Samurai on the lateral side for Kyrie – a metaphorical torch passing. The new Kyrobe logo fuses Bryant and Irving’s Nike logos into one. Samurai textile print on the lateral side is similar to the pattern on the initial Kyrie 3 colorway worn by Irving in a big 2016 Christmas day win.

Kyrie Irving has long considered Kobe Bryant to be both a mentor and friend, and he’s well aware of the Mamba’s connection to the martial arts legend Bruce Lee. Back when he was just 17, Irving participated in the Nike Extravaganza in California, where he laced up a special-edition Nike Zoom Kobe 5 inspired by Lee. Nike revisits the same design theme with this upcoming Kyrie 3 “Mamba Mentality,” featuring a number of special design notes, including four red slash marks, Mamba-inspired snakeskin on the medial side, a new “Kyrobe” logo on the tongue, and Samurai textile print on the lateral side. Nike’s New Kobe A.D. Explores the Psychology of Color

Image via: Nike

Image via: Nike

The mystique of Kobe Bryant endures even in post-retirement, and his latest Nike silhouette — the new Kobe A.D. — explores the aspect of his “Mamba Mentality” that explores the external factors that influence human behavior. In this particular instance, Nike and Kobe examine the psychology of color, as seen in the five distinct hues that finish the performance mid-top, featuring a multilayer upper with Lunarlon foam, Zoom Air cushioning and an engineered tread for optimal traction.

Each of the five colorways is meant to connect to an emotion or character trait: purple represents fearlessness, red symbolizes passion, yellow conveys optimism, grey stands in for detachment and blue signals honesty and trust.

All five colorways hit stores and nike.com on August 24, a nod to Kobe’s uniform number.

Nike Kobe AD Mid Release Date

Nike Kobe AD Mid Colorways Release Date

Nike Basketball just introduced Kobe Bryant’s next signature shoe, the Nike Kobe AD Mid. The model continues Kobe Bryant’s Mamba Mentality which encompasses both the physical and psychological elements of basketball. While his passion for practice and training is well documented, the five-time champion’s curiosity about the external factors that influence human behavior is lesser known. One aspect of that interest is the psychology of color — particularly in understanding the correlations between color, attitude and emotion.

The all-new, mid-top Nike Kobe AD applies Bryant’s intrigue of how color personally affects him to a five-shoe collection illuminating the origins and depth of his unyielding quest for improvement.

In true Bryant fashion, each makeup is informed by science but viewed through a unique Mamba lens. Each will feature a Multilayer upper provides a lightweight, ultra-thin feel that’s strong and supportive. A Lunarlon foam combines with Zoom Air for soft yet responsive, cushioning. We also have Engineered tread provides optimal traction for cutting and moving swiftly.

Kobe Bryant’s Air Jordan 3 PE Sold for $30,400

Air Jordan 3 Kobe PE 2002

During the 2002-2003 NBA season, Kobe Bryant was seen wearing models from Jordan Brand amongst other brands. This was a time when he was going through sneaker free agency but would eventually sign to Nike. The original Air Jordan 3 PE worn by Kobe Bryant during the 2002-2003 season was auctioned off. The production date is 11/26/2002 which is seen on the tongue tag while it comes in Kobe’s size 14. This pair was worn by Bryant when he and the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.

What’s insane about the recent selling, the Air Jordan 3 Kobe PE went for ,400 on eBay. While the price is crazy, this has to be one of the most limited and sought after player exclusives in history. Below you can check out more images and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Air Jordan 3 “Kobe” PE Sample Just Sold for a Crazy Amount

Before there was even a thought of the Air Jordan “Kobe” Pack releasing, and the subsequent disappointment when it didn’t, there was the one and only pair of the Air Jordan 3 made exclusively for Kobe Bryant during the 2002-03 NBA season. That pair, produced on November 26, 2002 in Bryant’s size 14, recently made its way onto eBay.

The auction closed with one bidder eventually capturing the pair for a cool ,400 USD. The shoes are labeled as a “Home White” colorway, of course rendered in white with Lakers purple and gold as secondary shades. Bryant wore them during games against the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs, respectively.

Take a look at the pair below and let’s collectively keep hope alive that one day the “Kobe” pack will see the light of day. Next year is the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 3. All-Star Weekend is in Los Angeles. Kobe Bryant is also in Los Angeles. Maybe?

Lonzo Ball Ditches The ZO2 For The Kobe A.D. And Drops 36 At Summer League

In his much hyped debut at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas last week, Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball laced up the Sho’time colorway of his signature Big Baller Brand ZO2 and had what he called “his worst game ever.” Undeterred, Ball bounced back in the Lakers’ second Summer League game by recording a triple-double of 11 points, 11 rebound and 11 assists in the same silo.

Ball definitely showed improvement in last night’s game however, as he trumped that performance by dropping 36 points in the Lakers’ 103-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

But while Ball becoming more confident and comfortable playing in an NBA setting likely allowed him to go off, it also could’ve been his shoes, which were the Kobe A.D. “Purple Stardust” not his signature Big Baller Brand sneakers.

Many took notice of Ball’s sneakers, including LeBron James, who couldn’t help but show his loyalty to Nike:

Just. Do. It

A post shared by LeBron James (@kingjames) on

Ball though, isn’t making a big deal out of his shoe change as he told reporters that he just had to channel Bryant’s “Mamba mentality” and since he’s a Big Baller, he could wear whatever he wants on the court.

You would think that Ball’s outspoken father Lonzo would be incensed by his son’s sneaker choice but he actually had a much different reaction.

From ESPN’s Darren Rovell:

“Lonzo is not forced to wear any brand and can play in any shoe he wants as long as it’s OK with the NBA,” LaVar Ball told ESPN by text early Thursday morning. “This is what being independent is all about.”

Ball may have a signature shoe but it sounds like he won’t be wearing it all the time in games. And while that might be strange, as the Balls say, it is just all part of being a Big Baller.
