Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 12/17 – 12/23

The Concords are here, the Concords are here! The biggest mass sneaker release of the year went down last night, as thousands of sneakerheads waited outside storefronts or in front of their computers, ready to claim their Concords once they became available. It was the perfect ending to one of the craziest weeks we’ve had on Sneaker News all year long. The lid on the Nike LeBron container exploded off, as we got a look at a slew of new colorways like the ‘Dunkman/Griffeys’ as well as the neck-breaking ‘Big Bang’ joints. Kobe Bryant sat down with Eric Avar to discuss the Kobe VII design, but Sneaker News quickly pointed out some upcoming colorways like the Poison Dart Frog and the ‘All-Star’. The Christmas Pack releases were also a hot topic of discussion, as four great holiday-themed colorways are currently set to drop on Christmas Day. Nike SB got into the mix, as we brought a thorough preview of Fall 2012 releases while introducing the P-Rod 6, the Challenge Court, and the FC x FP.
Celebs and NBA players were also a huge hit, as we caught a look at Wale and Justin Bieber in some heat, while LeBron James and a week’s worth of college ball-players stunned us with their on-court kicks. We finally got a nice side-profile look at the Air Yeezy 2, which last week was confirmed for a March 23, 2012 release. Ronnie Fieg’s last Asics collab or 2011 – the Mazarine Blue Gel Saga – has an official release date as well. In Foamposite news, we caught a look at a White/Silver PE of the Zoom Rookie worn by Penny himself, and Jason Negron set the bar even higher with his ‘Light-Up’ custom Foamposites. As we near the end of the 2011, Sneaker News is on a mission to determine the best sneakers of the year. How do we determine that? By introducing the second annual Sneaker News Readers’ Choice Poll, which features twenty different categories. Sneaker News has a ton of stuff for you for the remainder of the year, so check out the Sneaker News Weekly Rewind, vote in the Readers’ Choice Poll, and have a safe and happy Holiday weekend!

Like we did last year, we have compiled some of the year’s juiciest releases into a number of competitive categories, and put them to a vote in our second annual Sneaker News Readers’ Choice Poll. As you can see, 2011 offered quite a strong crop of releases, so there will be many difficult decisions made before our eventual winners are crowned. The polls will open tonight with live voting running up until midnight of Tuesday, December 27th. The 2011 Sneaker News Readers’ Choice results will be announced on Wednesday night, so be sure to voice your opinion and vote for your favorites of the year before it’s too late.

Sneaker News Blogs: Best of WDYWT – 12/13 – 12/19

Welcome to the penultimate full week of Best of WDYWT of 2011! There’s quite the collection of sneakers below, starting with the Nike Mag 2011 that one sneakerhead and his pops wore to Sneaker Con Los Angeles, and the great spread of SB Dunk Low classics, like the Supreme collab, the ‘Pushead’, and the Heineken. As usual, the Air Jordans made their mark, with a trio of Air Jordan Vs grabbing most of the attention, and some older heat, like the Air Huarache LE. With such a broad spectrum of kicks covered in one Top 20, voting for the best might be tough (although the Mags are the likely favorite). Check out this week’s Sneaker News Blogs: Best of WDYWT and if you haven’t submitted your own kicks yet, the easy instructions are right ahead.

We’re ticking down to the end of 2011 in the best way possible – by giving you an advanced look at the big-name releases in 2012. Starting off with Jordan Brand, the Air Jordan 2012 finally showed up in detailed view, boasting a luxurious wing-tip design with a swappable cushioning system and removable inner bootie. AJ Retros were also a huge hit, as we caught a glimpse at the upcoming Olympic Pack, a new colorway of the Air Jordan X, and a GS colorway of the Spiz’ike. The Nike Zoom Kobe VII was another hot topic this week, as we got a look at the Supreme ‘Cheetah’/Christmas and a preview of the iD options. The KD IV hits keep coming, as the Christmas, Creamsicle, and more upcoming releases wowed the crowd. The third head of the Nike Basketball kingdom also made some noise, as we brought you a look at the Cool Grey LeBron 9. We also brought you release dates for the Christmas Day releases from Nike Basketball and Jordan Brand. Of course, the biggest holiday drop is the Concords, which was featured four separate times during our Celebrity Feet features.
Announcement of the return of NBA basketball was the hottest news of late-November, and this week, NBA players finally got together to participate in Media Day. Nike Skateboarding introduced its January 2012 releases, and the Team Edition in the ‘SB Chronicles’ version made some waves as well. The most anticipated sequel in sneaker history, the Air Yeezy 2, has a confirmed release date, tentatively set sometime in March. This week’s Air Force 1 news was highlighted by the new Vachetta options for the Bespoke Experience. Levi Maestro collaborated with Vans on a pair of Old Skools, while a notable Chi-Town sneakerhead partnered with adidas Originals for two colorways of a sick Forum Mid rendition. Asics will continue its big push in 2012, as we brought you a look at some great January releases, like the ‘Infra-Cement’ Gel Lyte III. Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 12/3 – 12/9

While many of you have designed December as the month of the Concord XI, you’ll realize rather quickly that this month has a whole lot more in store. Not only did we see the unveiling of two signature shoes in the Nike Zoom Kobe VII and Jordan Fly Wade 2, but we were quickly reminded that there’s a ton of heat dropping from now until the 12/23 D-Day. The LeBron 9 ‘China’ was confirmed for a release next weekend, and another Ronnie Fieg x Asics collab seems to be in works before the New Year. But looking beyond 2011, there was plenty of new that made headlines; the new Griffey-inspired Air Max Express will arrive, as will the USA Basketball Pack, featuring four classic Nike Basketball sneakers with Olympic ties. The Air Force 1 ‘Jewel’ will also return in 2012.
Nike SB celebrated its 10th anniversary with an Innovation Timeline, detailing all of its footwear models and performance highlights over the last decade. Medicom Toy will end the solid year of Air Force 1 releases with a 10th Anniversary pack of two different Air Force 1s. In other news, we got a look at some off-the-wall stuff, like some ‘sneaker robots’, a sick 727-pair collection of Air Jordans, and a plethora of Air Jordan samples and PEs. Finishing off this magnanimous week of news was the Sneaker News Giveaway, as we revealed the winner of our Battlefield 3 prize while introducing another freebie of similar stature. There’s a lot more to see below, so take a good look at dont miss out on any of the top news!

Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 11/26 – 12/2

Sneaker News is all about bringing to you the latest hot topics in kicks, but this week’s biggest story wasn’t directly about sneakers! The NBA will return on Christmas Day, which means just a few more weeks until we see our favorite NBA stars rock their kicks on court. But going back to kicks – there’s still plenty to catch up on. Jordan Brand is gearing up for the release of the Jordan Fly Wade 2, but we also got to see a Green/Orange colorway of the Jordan Melo M8. The Kobe VII might’ve been the hot topic this week, as four new colorways were detailed in-depth solely by Sneaker News. The Nike LeBron 9 Low and LeBron 9 iD designs seemed to have been to big LeBron stories, as was a set of Nike Basketball PEs that touched upon alternate careers of Nike Basketball athletes like Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, and Andre Iguodala.
Nike SB continues its simplistic approach with its sneakers, opting for simpler, more street-friendly colorways. Patta of Amsterdam has been working on an Asics Gel Saga II collaboration, while adidas Originals worked on a set of Forum Mids with Boylston Trading Co. which may be one of the best adidas releases of the year. December 1st marked World AIDS Day, as we got a look at a gorgeous Chuck Taylor designed by New Yorker Jose Parla for (PRODUCT)RED x Converse. The Foamposite frenzy got a bit crazier as Sneaker News gave you an exclusive look at a great custom pair of the Nike Air Foamposite Pro. It seems like the cold weather is keeping celebrities indoors, as this week’s Celebrity Feet features included Wale, during a performance for FuseTV, and Jerry Ferrara of Entourage, seen wearing a pair of Jordan Retros from ’07. There’s a lot more to see below, so cozy up to Sneaker News Weekly Rewind to be on top of your sneaker game!

Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 11/29 – 11/25

How’s everyone enjoying the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and the Black Friday shopping? We hope you all filled your appetite with the holiday-appropriate foods, the leftovers, and all the big-name sneaker releases, but don’t let the tryptophan get to you that quickly, because there’s still a week’s worth of Sneaker News to look over! Jordan Brand kicked things off with a look at some January 2012 releases like Jordan X Auto Clave and ‘Flight-The-Power’. Arguably the most energetic colorway of any Nike Zoom KD sneaker is the ‘Nerf’ KD IV, which Sneaker News provided a detailed look at, as well as a release date, but later in the week, the mysterious ‘Weatherman’ edition finally surfaced to give it some friendly competition. Staying on the topic of basketball, we got plenty of on-feet viewings of NBA players overseas and in charity games as well as a collection of heat seen on NCAA basketball players.
Foamposites appear to be a frontrunner for next year’s ‘must-have’ list, with detailed looks at the Electrolime and Varsity Red Foam Ones being popular topics this week. Nike SB has got some nice offerings as well, like the Summer 2012 release of the ‘Nori’ colorway of the Dunk Mid. New Balance embarks on another collaboration – this time with a sneaker retailer that also doubles as a blog. Sneaker events were also worth nothing, like the Nike Football Media Summit out at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR and the upcoming Sneaker Con NYC schedule. Air Jordan OGs and PEs were also a popular topic, with the autographed and game-worn pair of OG AJ1s being the shining light. Check out all of Sneaker News Weekly Rewind below, and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
