Many recent Sneaker News headlines have focused on the various ‘Gold Medal’ and otherwise Olympic Air Jordans set to hit retailers in the coming months, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of other classics on tap for what figures to be the most densely packed summer on record. This Air Jordan 4 Retro hearkens back to the original ‘Fire Red’ edition that was reprised in 2006 with the ‘Mars Blackmon’ face on the heels, but unlike that ’06 Varsity Red edition, these come sans Spike. That seems more than fair given the success of the Son of Mars and Spike Lee’s insane Foamposite PEs, but would the OG shade of red make these more of a lock (especially given the stiff competition)? Let us know when you’re on the other side checking out a new batch of photos, and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for the exact release date on this August 2012 drop. Photos: SA

The upcoming Air Jordan ‘Golden Moments’ Pack refers to the two Olympic Gold Medal triumphs of the Air Jordan, which arrived in 1992, when Michael led the Dream Team to a dominated victory in the Air Jordan VII ‘Olympic’, and in 2000, when Ray Allen played his role in the 2000 Gold Medal squad in the Air Jordan VI. Both of those colorways will in fact release independently of the Pack, with the Air Jordan VII version slated to hit retailers on July 21st. The ‘Olympic’ should still be somewhat fresh in our minds as a special ‘For The Love Of The Game’ edition released in 2010 with a gold-embroidered basketball/heart logo on the heel. Another look at the Air Jordan VII ‘Olympic’ is just ahead, so take a look and cop these early from el-store on eBay.

It had been reported yesterday by reputable sources that a price increase in the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’ and Air Jordan IV ‘Bred’ would be on the way for the Holiday 2012 season. We have just learned first-hand from Jordan Brand that the yesterday’s news isn’t quite the case; the Air Jordan IV ‘Bred’ (November) will stay at a retail price of 0, while the Air Jordan XI ‘Bred’ will increase by only five dollars to an MSRP of 5. This news is certainly a sigh of relief for many sneakerheads out there, and we’re happy to be able to confirm that those prices won’t see that drastic increase after all. This news should have a lot of people resting easier, so let us know what your thoughts are now that Jordan Brand has cleared the air.

As the summer release schedule continually grows more crowded, we’re reminded of an Air Jordan XII Retro that’s been waiting in the wings for over fifteen years. So even with all the ‘Gold Medal’ and otherwise Olympic attention of late, the ‘Obsidian’ Air Jordan 12 is awaited with equal anticipation, one of the increasingly rare never-retroed Jays and a design that’s really just too beautiful to keep locked up for too much longer. Grainy Obsidian and pebbled white leathers make for a spectacularly clean two-toned look and the select University Blue accents remind us that Jordan was doing the tonal thing long before it was a widespread trend. Yet another case of Tinker’s timeless design shining through on a supremely wearable colorway, the Obsidian Twelves are coming up in June and this Grade School edition gives us a closer look after the jump below. The Air Jordan IV is enjoying a strong retro revival in 2012, starting with February’s ‘White Cement’ drop and culminating at the start of the holiday season as we expect the ‘Black Cement’ OG in stores for Black Friday. In between arrives a third 1989-born colorway just as was the case with last year’s Air Jordan III blowout, but what the IVs will do this year that the IIIs couldn’t match is come through with that fourth and final OG. That’s right, along with June’s ‘Military Blue’ edition, we’ll also be getting the once ‘Fire Red’ Air Jordan 4 just in time for back-to-school. We say ‘formerly’, because as in the case of the formerly-Tech Grey ’12 ‘Cements’, these have surfaced with a revised color code that provides instant verification of their age. But as we remember with the ‘White Cement’, the purist outcry to return to original form was eventually followed with proof that those were indeed Cement Grey. Click through for a closer look at the AJ4s that most recently featured Mars Blackmon’s face, let us know if you’d rather see them in Fire Red and stick with Sneaker News for updates as we approach the August drop date. Credited as the one which popularized the definition of a “sneakerhead” in the 1989 Spike Lee film Do the Right Thing, the Air Jordan IV returns on a grand scale this summer with the Fire Red edition. Although the edition saw a re-release back in 2006, most folks just didn’t get the chance to buy them. Now, that opportunity is upon us once again. No exact launch date at this moment except it is on schedule for release in August 2012. Certainly, more official information about this pop-culture icon to come in the near future. ‘The Shot’ ranks right up there with ‘White Cement’, ‘Elephant print’ and ‘championship ring’ when it comes to two-word phrases associated with Michael and his Air Jordans. The image of MJ driving hard to his left off the inbound, leaping at the top of the key and hanging there as he noosed Craig Ehlo and the Cleveland fans is one that’s been burned into our collective consciousness, and along with it, the immortal legend of the Air Jordan IV. Judging by the number and overall tone of the comments we’ve seen, this ‘Cavs’ AJIV is likely the most popular new Air Jordan Legacy colorway so far in 2012; will you grab a pair when they arrive at select Jordan Brand retailers on May 12th? Let us know when you’re on the other side checking out a new batch of photos, and stick with Sneaker News for all the summer 2012 Jordan Brand release dates. Photos: h-leung on HK

One of the biggest stories this week came in the form of a clear viewing of the Air Jordan Gold Medal Pack, comprised of the Air Jordan VI and VII in a Gold Medal-inspired set of colorways emanating Michael’s victory on the international stage. Despite how great that Pack may be, some have already come to the conclusion that the Air Jordan VI ‘Olympic’ is the must-have Air Jordan release of the Olympic Games, and although Jordan Brand presents this Retro with a slight alteration on the midsole, these may be every bit as good as the 2000 original. Peep this detailed look below and let us know if these are the top Olympic-inspired Air Jordans of the year. Photos: kickz-lab

Though its likely not to cause pandemonium or riotous behavior at storefronts today, the Air Jordan XII Retro “Playoffs” still secure a place in the history book as the very first release to be on Nike‘s new Twitter RSVP initiative. From a preliminary gauge of how the Twitter RSVP procedure went about on its first day, things went quite smoothly. But it won’t be till later on today, when those submit their RSVP begin to claim their reservations, that the success (or failure) of the new system can be appraise. Setting aside all that, now is your chance to cop yourself a pair of Air Jordan XII Retro “Playoffs”, RSVP or not, from NikeStore.com. Pairs of it will also be available as in-store purchases at all Nike Store, NikeTown, and third party retail points like Foot Locker later on this morning.
