Reaching into the brand’s extensive back catalog, adidas Originals uncovers a retro gem, the Continental 80. Set to launch as a faithful one-to-one reproduction of the late ’80s artifact, the shoe carries a soft premium leather upper, featuring subtle perforation vents on the toebox and quarter panels. It all rests on a double cupsole, with a two-tone stripe on the sides and a trefoil window on the eyestay adding a bit of color to the all-white color scheme. A terry cloth-lined interior rounds out the details. Expect the Continental 80 to launch June 21st at adidas.com and select adidas Originals retailers.

Is Nike Simply Remembering the Playstation x Air Force 1 or Teasing a Retro Release?

Rumors in sneaker culture are as common as gossip on page six. Many times things are spoken that never come to pass. Other times they’re actualized in reality.

Reports of a new Playstation x Nike Air Force 1 collaboration has been rampant since the start of 2018, when Paul George’s second signature silhouette was debuted in partnership with the Sony-produced gaming console. Nike SNKRS today adds further fuel to the flame, opening its vault for story time to chronicle the 2006 Playstation x Air Force 1.

The question is are they doing this because it’s a great story and deserves to be repopulated throughout the community? Or is this a subtle yet strategic push towards a new retro release? Many would say yes without a hitch or second guess. We’ll stay cautiously optimistic (for now). And we’ll stay that way because Nike has not confirmed an upcoming release in any capacity. Although, a very cryptic “fans of both brands can only imagine what comes next” message at the end of said story will force many to lean otherwise.

Just before that leading comment, Nike would add that the earliest samples of the collaboration had been destroyed.

When the shoe first released back in 2006, in conjunction with the retail debut of the Playstation 3, the limited edition drop was scaled to just 150 pairs — almost all of which were gifted to Sony employees and sweepstakes winners. Three years later, in 2009, an even smaller number of 50 pairs were re-released. That successor was produced in full patent leather with the initial execution only to a partial degree.

As far as speculation goes, something will almost certainly take place with Playstation and Nike in 2018. There’s already a style code floating about for a mysterious sneaker between the two parties. Could it be the long-awaited retro? Or maybe another friends and family pair? Either way, if you didn’t already have enough to look forward to during the second half of the year in sneakers, add this to the list.

Nike’s Air Revaderchi Retro is Almost Here

Originally released back in 1992 as a trail sneaker under the All Conditions Gear moniker, later this year Nike is set to return the Air Revaderchi.

Nike AGC, resurgent both by traditional measures and ACRONYM’s Errolson Hugh’s NikeLab ACG line, saw its biggest modern-day boom with the return of the Air Mowabb back in 2015. And while the Nike Air Revaderchi certainly doesn’t garner a similar rise from sneaker purists as the Mowabb does, the early ’90s trail shoe undeniably fits within contemporary style parameters.

Thanks in part to the Air Humara and Komyuter before it, the Air Revaderchi doesn’t have near as steep a hill to climb as it would given those styles didn’t come first. One of which a trail sneaker and the other bearing the ACG name, each represent something the Revaderchi can balance itself with.

This OG Nike Air Revaderchi colorway is slated to release soon with more styles to follow. Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for more details.

Air Jordan 1 “Metallic Purple” May Finally Retro This Fall

The Air Jordan 1 “Metallic Series” is the last of a dying breed. Similar to the Air Jordan 10 “City Series” although unique in its own right, two pairs from the long-standing collection have returned in modern times.

Both the “Metallic Navy” and “Metallic Red” released in 2016 and 2017, respectively. And, unfortunately, to a large degree, were met with less than a warm response. Sure, purists adore the original collection with its shimmering glow. Yet few others share the same affinity for the time-honored “Metallic Series.”

Could all that change with a release of the vastly desired “Metallic Purple” edition? Given the mystique of this pair, and its long tenured status among the metallic ranks, it’s very likely.

New reports today indicate that the Air Jordan 1 “Metallic Purple” will release this fall as a quickstrike. Following a quasi return in 2009 that didn’t exactly hit its mark given the lack of Nike Air branding, a true retro later this year is a vindicating re-introduction for the coveted Air Jordan 1. Moreover, that 2009 release was exclusive to European consumers and not US buyers.

No images of the 2018 “Metallic Purple” Air Jordan 1 are currently available. Stay tuned to Nice Kicks for more.

Nike Air Max2 Light Set to Retro in 2019

Although it’s widely assumed that much of the heat within the densely populated Swoosh vault has already re-released in some form or another, the Beaverton-based brand isn’t nearly done with unearthed retro gems. Much of this, of course, is dependent on the sheer number of sneakers that have released in the years and decades past. In addition, retros are best served when the cultural climate aligns with said shoe.

The current temperature seems ripe for a return of the Nike Air Max2 Light. First released back in 1994 as a successor to the Air Max Light original in 1989, the silhouette was widely adored for its shapely frame and the vibrancy in its colorways. Lightweight materials made the sneaker a runners delight while the progressive panel upper set course for its dual-pressure chamber heel and formidable forefoot Air.

Nike’s Air Max2 Light is set to make a timely return sometime in 2019.

Stussy’s Summer 2018 Collection Is Filled With Bold Prints and Retro Silhouettes

Image via: Stussy

For Summer 2018, Stussy presents a collection inspired by a pivotal time in American history: the ’60s, when social unrest transformed the creative energy of the youth to effectively shape modern subcultures. Not only does the new assortment directly pay tribute to this era through the use of reworked military garb — an aesthetic co-opted by the counterculture of the time — but the apparel speaks to the new techniques that people used to make their clothes feel personal to them. New dying techniques, including tie-dye, along with complex patterning, intricate stitching and bold prints, are just some of the examples employed throughout the range. The first delivery of Stussy’s Summer 2018 collection is available now at the brand’s chapter stores and stussy.com

Encapsulated Air might be getting its just due — or perhaps more — in the near future with the return of the Nike Air Skylon 2.

New Balance Debuts Remixed Retro with ML99HLW

Dialing down the past but doing so with new notation, the New Balance ML99HLW sees the running brand merge three favorites for one new take rooted in the past.

Void of the singular midfoot branding typically seen in said category, this pair allows mesh to shine through the upper and toe box for a clean yet technical take. Mint and pink tones play to an ’80s aesthetic while ABZORB and ENCAP tooling elevate the heritage styling to modern comfort.

Those curious about the New Balance ML99HLW can purchase a pair at hanon.
