Nike Air Max 180 Releases with Yeezy Vibes

It’s worth saying that “Blink” is a colorway that never really got its just due, so it’s refreshing that Nike has recognized this with the release of a Black/Pink/Grey colorway of the Air Max 180.

Giving off a nightlife-in-Miami vibe, the sneaker sports a soft and supple black leather upper, featuring panels of meshed canvas and neoprene, with bright pink taking hold of the shoe’s branding and also making an appearance in the Air Max pocket, surrounded by grey.

The Nike Air Max 180 (Black/Pink/Grey) is available now at select retailers like Suppa for €139.90 (~5).

Kanye West Debuts the “Red October” Nike Air Yeezy 2 // This Day in Sneaker History

Five years ago today, Kanye West made jaws drop and eyes light up with his debut of new music and new sneakers on Saturday Night Live. That sneaker as we now know, would be the infamous “Red October” Nike Air Yeezy 2 — West’s last shoe with the Swoosh.

Never before seen on Kanye, the shoe was subject of rumors for months leading up to its on-foot debut which served as an appetizer for the West’s most abrasive sonic effort yet, Yeezus.

Taking to the SNL stage, West appeared a man possessed or at least enraged, playing for the first time the single that would set off his upcoming solo effort. Scarier than “Monster” or “Hell of a Life” before, the Marilyn Manson-resembling “Black Skinhead” opened up to images of dogs barking and the sound of Kanye screaming, revealing a rage never before displayed on record by the multi-faceted artist.

The loud and aggressive new sound was matched by his shoes of the same volume. Triple-red, the dark tone of both the lighting and the music would cast a shadow over the sneakers, allowing just enough of a glimpse to prove they did in fact exist. Fortunately for fans still in the dark, his partner Kim Kardashian posted a shot of both the shoe and the original album artwork that night prior to the performance.

Later in the show, West would perform “New Slaves” with a more stoic but equally serious disposition. He would remain in the shoes while the internet would erupt and bloggers in both the sneaker and music space would rush to get their coverage live.

As history would play out following that night, the most mysterious Yeezy 2 would prove the most coveted. Whether fact or fan fiction, word of a Willy Wonka inspired giveaway spoke to the concept of ‘golden tickets’ packaged in physical copies of the Yeezus album, a move that would’ve increased the album’s 327,000 copies sold in the first-week exponentially. This, of course, did not happen. Around the same time, rumors would run rampant about a release date with Nike’s Heidi Burgett taking to Twitter to dispute a summer ’13 drop but also alluding to a launch later that year.

A month after Kanye’s SNL performance, Yeezus would release with the shoes being further immortalized in the lyrics to “Hold My Liquor.” Days after the album drop, West would announce on Twitter an exclusive contest to win the “Red October” Yeezy 2s with 50 pairs being given away on kanyewest.com. This would confirm a retail price of 5, with 24 winners announced shortly after in August.

Special delivery!!! Kanye is rehearsing for his tour so I can’t bug him right now…hmmmm what should I do with these? #Yeezys #RedOctobers

A post shared by Kim Kardashian West (@kimkardashian) on

Come the actual month of October, the sung about shoe was seen on the feet of Kanye, in photos from his family and few other places. High hopes for a holiday release were in serious doubt when Ye started slamming Nike on stage and on the media run for his heralded Yeezus Tour. As it would go, Kanye would stop wearing the “Red Octobers” to perform, switch to Margielas on stage and eventually announce a deal with adidas.

With Kanye gone from Nike there proved one last hope — a Foot Locker tweet reporting an online only release on December 27, 2013. This proved misinformation, but as Twitter taketh Twitter giveth, with Nike out of nowhere dropping the shoe via said platform months later — on a Sunday of all days — on February 9, 2014.

Pairs sold out instantly and still prove sought after today.

The shoe that proved to be the peak of Kanye at Nike, and also the end of said era, all debuted in official fashion five years ago today.

Kanye West Reveals the YEEZY 700 V2 in a Grey Colorway

Image via: Kanye West

Mr. West has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, and while fans continue to mourn the passing of the Old Kanye, the current version is seemingly hard at work. He recently took to Twitter to unveil the new YEEZY 700 V2, featuring a boxy silhouette constructed from a blend of suede and leather. Curving lines and various overlaid pieces — including what appear to be stylized adidas three-stripes on the quarter panel — are complemented by a muted color palette, one that’s dominated by grey and tan shades. Like its predecessor, it’s the bulky midsole that constitutes the shoe’s defining feature, adding even more weight to the maximalist aesthetic. According to Ye, the shoe will hit stores in Q4 of 2018.

Kanye West Reveals New adidas Yeezy Boost 700 V2 for Fall/Winter

The adidas Yeezy Boost 700 V2 is apparently the next big push from Kanye West and his growing YEEZY company. To no surprise, the man behind his nicknamesake brand already has a pair in a colorway we’ve never seen.

Approved for Q4 — Holiday Season or Fall/Winter depending on the drop date — as said by West, this grey and gum makeup sees the updated chunky runner remaining muted and tonal. This is in line with other 700 V2s we’ve seen on or from Kanye, appearing in White/Grey and Black/Grey thus far.

Sporting the same sole tooling as its predecessor with a slightly less aggressive upper, preview the self explantatory style below and expect these to hit shelves near the end of the year.

Kanye West Previews adidas Yeezy 700 V2

Kanye West took to Twitter earlier this afternoon to preview the upcoming adidas Yeezy 700 V2. The second edition of the largely popular Yeezy 700, and a shoe West says he “loves.”

Although certainly of a similar volition as the models aforementioned predecessor, the V2 edition also undeniably stands on its own. True to the retro aesthetics currently trending in the sneaker industry, breathable construction adorns much of the body while reflective details aids that design language while equally heightening visibility.

West appears to have much in store with adidas for the remainder of 2018, some of which he shared on Twitter in weeks past. The social media platform, though, has been problematic for West. Many of his thoughts and stream of consciousness state there have proven ill-advised. Yet adidas has affirmed that they have no plans of parting ways with West.

adidas Yeezy 500 “Super Moon Yellow” Returns This June

Originally released last December as one part of a Yeezy bundle that cost well over 0, the adidas Yeezy 500 “Super Moon Yellow” is now set to make a singular retail debut this summer.

Widely recognized at the Yeezy 500’s original colorway, “Super Moon’s” will release in wider numbers this June after the “Blush” edition saw a similar rollout earlier this month. The latter saw numbers relatively large where Yeezy releases are concerned although it’s not yet clear just how available the “Super Moon Yellow” pairs will be. Yet when considering the Boost allowance, and this shoe has none, it would appear easier to produce in larger numbers.

As of now, it’s reported that the shoe will release on June 9, 2018. Retail pricing will be 0 USD. Adidas has not yet confirmed the release date. Stay tuned for more details.

Comparing The Adidas KB8 3’s Influence On Kanye’s Yeezy 500

words & images // Nick DePaula:

When most people think back to Kobe Bryant’s early era with Adidas, it’s the original KB8 — since re-dubbed the “Crazy 8” — and The Kobe — often dubbed the “Toasters” — that quickly come to mind.

As the brand has re-released several of the earliest sneakers that he wore with The Three Stripes, one more obscure model that’s always been oft forgotten since it first released during the 1999-2000 series was his third KB8 model.

Launched just as the Lakers were switching up their classic jersey style for a modernized take fit for a new millennium, as the story goes, Kobe was also looking for a design shift from his footwear.

He was over the podular flow of the Feet You Wear line, and looking for a more sleekened and streamlined aesthetic for his series. He only wore the KB8 3 in a trio of colorways, before soon switching to the Forum 2000, a simplified update to the brand’s 80s classic.

To appease Bryant, Adidas soon tapped Audi and co-designed a short-lived line of auto-inspired The Kobe silhouettes to kick off the 2000s, before he abruptly left the brand just after the 2002 season.

While the KB8 3 — often also referred to as the EQT Responsive — has barely even registered a mention in recent time, that all changed this year. As Kanye West’s namesake line looked to launch a new batch of bulky and heavily paneled pairs, the new Yeezy 500 silhouette actually draws some of its most defining parts directly from the Bryant shoe.

Since I’ve long loved the Feet You Wear era and its funky design language, it was a welcome surprise to see the always-frenzied Yeezy series celebrate some of the line’s best quirks. I actually still have pretty much every sneaker from my high school and college days, and was able to uncover my original pair of the KB8 3. They were worn during my sophomore year of High School for JV hoops, and have been aging ever since.

Apparent below in a detailed side-by-side comparison, the Yeezy’s midsole design is only slightly altered in certain zones, with thicker rounded edges through the forefoot pods, a rubber midfoot arch shank in place of the KB8’s full-length support plate, and an added rubberized panel just above the pods.

The most noticeable difference can be found when looking down at each shoe, as the Yeezy’s pods are more pronounced in general, none more than the inner heel pod that now houses an Adidas logo in place of the Feet You Wear “Freddy” icon. It goes without saying, but the upper designs are entirely unrelated, with the Yeezy 500 opting for a more busy overlay-driven look that combines mesh, nappy suede and leather insets, while the KB8 3 offered up a simple court-block driven design.

Check out an original size 14 pair of the Adidas KB8 3 alongside a current size 13 pair of the Adidas Yeezy 500, and let us know your thoughts on Twitter. If you’re after even more knowledge and history from Adidas’ much loved Feet You Wear era, you simply must check out our comprehensive FYW overview.

Newly Tooled adidas Yeezy 700 in “Utility Black” Has Emerged

Less than 24 hours after Kanye West revealed new iterations of the Yeezy Boost 350 v2, Yeezy 500 and the upcoming Yeezy basketball shoe, the often unseen, newly re-tooled Yeezy 700 appears in a “Utility Black” colorway.

With a varying midsole that tracks wider than the original, the sloped upper of this 700 is slightly more slanted as opposed to the retail debut. A combination of suede and leather fabrication adorn the modern-day “dad shoe” which comes retro-fitted in a weathered aesthetic.

Kanye West has been on a tear lately and it’s poised to be another huge year for brand Yeezy. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming adidas Yeezy 700 “Utility Black” release.
