Nike Zoom KD IV // Throwback Thursday

Keep it light and tight.

Today’s Nice Kicks’ Throwback Thursday discusses and pays tribute to a modern era Nike basketball silhouette in the post-2000 Nike era – the 2011 Nike Zoom KD IV – signature sneaker of NBA MVP Kevin Durant during his playing days with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Designed by Leo Chang and named by Nike as one of the most iconic basketball sneakers of the last 20 years, the Zoom KD IV was an innovative, responsive model having employed the very best in Nike sneaker technology.

Of note, the Zoom KD IV featured Nike’s Adaptive Fit System – synthetic foot straps at the lateral forefoot and medial arch to integrate with the laces for a secure, locked-down, custom fit. A one-piece upper with Nike’s Hyperfuse construction was used which afforded maximum durability and breathability. In order to accommodate Durant’s highly mobile and versatile style of play, the sneaker used low-profile forefoot Zoom Air cushioning for a responsive, lightweight feel.

This silhouette truly embodied and captured KD’s spirit and personality and featured numerous design cues and subtleties paying tribute to KD’s family, his first coach, Big Chucky, the DMV region and his home city, Seat Pleasant located in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Multiple colorways of the KD IV released including Nike iD options which allowed the consumer to customize their pair for a unique, individual style.

In 2012, KD wore a special white/white-obsidian-university red Team USA colorway in honor of the Summer Olympic Games in London. His special edition pair featured a red Adaptive Fit strap and released at a price point of , quite reasonable especially for today’s standards.

While KD may have taken on the role of villain in recent years following his departure from OKC to Northern California’s Bay Area, one thing is certain: his signature sneaker line has reached superhero status as one of the premiere collections within the modern sneaker era.

Durantula unleashed.

LeBron James Debuts New Nike Air Zoom Generation PE

LeBron James is the talk of the league right now and currently the talk of this site. After praising his 15th season fashion this afternoon, the King offers a hat tip if you will with the debut of a new pre-game PE.

Donning a purple suede take on his introductory Nike Air Zoom Generation, this royal rendition sees an icy outsole adding contrast to these never-before-seen sneakers.

Perhaps purple is the tone that will take fall as the styling of this pair is parallel to that of Travis Scott’s recently worn Air Jordan 4 of the same hue. More than likely, it’s just coincidence.

Check ’em out in full ‘fit fashion below.

? @kingjames arrived at Quicken Loans Arena this evening wearing an all-purple Air Zoom Generation. #NiceKicks

Nike Air Vis Zoom Uptempo // Throwback Thursday

Spur of the Moment.

19 years ago, today, the Memorial Day Miracle at The Alamodome took place. Welcome to today’s Nice Kicks’ Throwback Thursday sneaker retrospective which pays tribute to one of the most iconic and memorable NBA game-winning shots ever made on Memorial Day: Sean Elliott’s shot against the TrailBlazers in Game 2 of the 1999 Western Conference Finals and the sneaker worn during that memorable moment: the 1999 Nike Air Vis Zoom Uptempo.

The Blazers led the game in its final seconds by 2 free throws by guard Damon Stoudamire aka Mighty Mouse. The Spurs called a timeout to advance the ball to midcourt. Mario Elie made the inbounds pass to Elliott. What happened next was nothing short of miraculous. Elliott caught the ball just inside the sideline while fading back. Blazers guard Stacey “Plastic Man” Augmon nearly stole the inbounds pass. Luckily, the ball somehow made its way into Elliott’s hands.

Like Reggie Miller had done so many times before, Sean knew he needed a 3 ball for the lead. Yet, despite the brevity of the situation with the shot clock expiring, he had the presence of mind to remain on his toes as he shot the ball to avoid stepping out of bounds.

Rasheed Wallace lunged outwards towards Sean as he rose up in his beautiful shooting form, to try and block or at least alter the shot.

The catch.

The shot.

The release.

Nothing but net.

The Spurs – coached by Poppovich – would go on to win the game by one point and soon thereafter complete the series sweep en route to their first NBA Championship. Nearly 20 years later, this memorable Spur’s playoff moment stands the test of time and ranks as one of the all-time greatest NBA Playoff moments.

Elliott wore the 1999 Nike Air Vis Zoom Uptempo on court during this iconic moment, a versatile and popular sneaker worn by various NBA players that season including Allan Houston, Tim Duncan, and Alonzo Mourning, the latter whose custom PE pair featured a special Miami Heat colorway and his #33 stitched onto the side of each shoe.

Featuring visible thick heel and forefoot Zoom Air cushioning, and inner-sockliner, this popular model has yet to receive the retro treatment by Nike. As an aside: Elliott would require life-saving kidney transplant surgery shortly after the season, giving added and special meaning to the phrase, “Memorial Day Miracle,” a moment that will forever live on in the hearts of longtime Spurs fans during the infancy of the franchises’ dynasty.

A very special thank you to all the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation. You are our true heroes.

Alongside models like the Zoom Talaria, the Spiridon is just as good as any modern-day release. That much is proven by this new colorway that takes on international expression.

Wrapped in flags from nations across the globe, this simplistic white Spiridon is given life through an array of global signatures from toe to heel. An iridescent Swoosh marks the paneling while a translucent outsole finishes the sole unit. It is unclear exactly where the shoe draws its inspiration from or when they’ll release. Stay tuned for more on this forthcoming Nike Air Zoom Spiridon.

The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus Turns 35 Years Old

Image via: Nike

Image via: Nike

The Air Zoom Pegasus, one of Nike’s most enduring runners, is entering its 35th year in 2018. In the planning stages of this latest iteration, the Swoosh elicited feedback from elite athletes (including champion British distance runner Mo Farah), resulting in some of the key features remaining left untouched. In this case, it’s the mesh cut-and-sewn upper, along with the combo of Zoom Air and Cushlon foam in the midsole. In terms of what’s new, runners can expect a full-length articulated Nike Zoom airbag inspired by the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4%, as well as a redesigned collar directed away from the Achilles for added comfort. There’s also a new notched tongue for easier on and off, a beveled heel that accommodates touchdown, and a re-positioned bottom eyelet that opens up and provides flex in the foot. The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 35 is available starting today at nike.com.

L’Art de L’automobile x OFF-WHITE x Nike Zoom Fly SP // Preview

What do car guys know about sneakers, anyway? It looks like they know more than one would think as we get a look at what appears to be a custom OFF-WHITE x Nike Zoom Fly SP specially made for the “Kar” designers at L’Art de L’automobile.

Not only skilled in design, but also in flexing for the ‘gram, @lartdelautomobile posted a photo on the social media platform this past weekend, casually donning a pair of the original OFF-WHITE x Nike Air VaporMax, holding a pair of Nike Zoom Fly SPs.

A post shared by L’Art de L’automobile KAR (@lartdelautomobile) on

What sets this colorway apart, aside from opting for an all-black look, is the use of a Flyknit upper, featuring at least one sizeable blue dot and two white ones. On the laces, we see a pattern resembling tire tread, as the trademark OFF-WHITE “FOAM” gets printed on the midsole with some help from a gradient stripe.

As is usually the case for kicks like these, there’s no word on if/when they will drop, so until then, let us know what you think about them and if they’re something you’d rock.

Nike Air Zoom Generation “SVSM” PE May Be Dropping This Month

The brand in Beaverton has done an interesting job of rolling out the Nike Air Zoom Generation retros. Seemingly sporadic and often hard to get, original colorways have come back with little warning but to cult fanfare — perhaps the best way to slowly build an eventually much bigger buzz without burning it out. The next pair predicted to return is the previously unreleased “SVSM” style.

A nod to LeBron’s high school hoops career at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s in Akron, Ohio, the prep palette has been produced in PE form on many a King James signature but rarely at retail. According to @pinoe77 and echoed by some inside sources, a limited launch this month is set to change all that.

Reported to release on May 26th, the Nike Air Zoom Generation “SVSM” could be coming soon and will likely be hard to get. Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for all info and updates.
